In Fortnite: Battle Royale is back with one of the most controversial weapons: the Drum Gun. The weapon has many fans but almost as many opponents who find it way too strong.
Why is the Drum Gun back? On May 4, 2019, during a special event, the “Vault” was opened. Inside were six items that had been removed from the game, and players could choose which of the once-banned items should make a return.
A large part of the community chose the Drum Gun (Drum or Tommy Gun), which had disappeared in Season 5 to the great dismay of many fans.

What is the problem with the Drum Gun? The reason the Drum Gun was removed back then was that the so-called “spray meta” became overwhelming. This referred to a playstyle where players using the Drum Gun would simply spray bullets while running, easily working through cover and opponents.
The spray gameplay did not require much skill and was therefore very popular, especially among younger players. These times are likely to return, as Epic has seemingly brought the weapon back in its original state from Season 5 without adjustments.
For many experienced players, this is a bad signal, as Epic, in their opinion, has returned their favorite toy to a horde of kids, ruining the fun for the more mature players.
Ninja demands nerf
This is what professionals like Ninja complain about regarding the Drum Gun. The most prominent opponent of the Drum Gun is streamer Ninja. He generally likes the weapon and also thought the event to choose it was cool. But Epic really needs to tweak the weapon:
“I love what Epic has done. That they allowed us to bring back one of the weapons from the vault. I think that was a great idea. I love it. But guys, something needs to happen! The Drum Gun needs a buff on its rarity. It should become Gold [legendary rarity].”
Ninja is referring here to the rarity of the weapon. The Drum Gun is currently only “Uncommon” and “Rare.” This means you can find it in every corner.
According to Ninja, the final battles in the late game consist only of guys who are spraying wildly with the Drum Gun, totally ruining the current tactic of building and fortifying.
This cannot continue. But whatever Epic does, the weapon will likely remain in the game for a while and will have a lasting impact on the meta of Season 9 (and the big World Cup finals).
Similarly, the end of Tilted Towers resonates emotionally with the fans.
