In Helldivers 2, players fight against bugs and bots, but another enemy lurks in the shadows, waiting to steal your nerves. They are neither cyborgs nor the Illuminati, they are the trolls. What these individuals do to you and what the developers might do about it will be revealed to you.
What do the trolls do? As in almost every game, trolls try to get on your last nerve. They sabotage you, put obstacles in your way, and hinder your progress. There are also trolls in Helldivers 2, but they use different methods to annoy the players.
They try to gain the leader status in a lobby. Once they have gathered a full squad, all players fly to the next mission and complete it until they are about to be evacuated.
When it comes to “Let’s go to the Pelican,” all players are kicked – this way, only the troll receives the rewards and progress, while the kicked players lose up to 40 minutes of their lives and end up with nothing. Fans have had enough and are finally demanding the developers to intervene against the problem.
Players have had enough and want a solution
What do the developers say about it? On Discord, the user eero asked the community manager “Twinbeard” if one could keep 50% of their collected samples if kicked by a troll after the Pelican had already been called.
Twinbeard had already responded to this: “We are actually working on a solution to mitigate the problems associated with ‘being kicked by an asshole lobby leader,’ as someone once eloquently put it. No estimated arrival time, but it’s coming.”
And although the community manager cannot go into detail, some fans already know how a solution could look, and it comes directly from Deep Rock Galactic.
What solutions are there? On Reddit, a user (via reddit.com) offered a solution inspired by Deep Rock Galactic. When a player gets kicked in a round there, the kicked players receive 25% of the materials and XP collected during the round.
Additionally, a reputation system is proposed, in which players are matched with others based on their cooperativeness. This means that team players and social Helldivers will be grouped with other team players in a player search. Trolls and griefers, on the other hand, can play together and annoy each other.
This could create a more relaxed environment, without honest players having to fear wasting up to 40 minutes of their lives with no progress.
