In Destiny 2, it has become a hobby for players to find methods in the game to exploit bugs ruthlessly. What is called an exploit in other games is euphemistically referred to as “Cheese” in Destiny: An exploit in the new expansion “Destiny 2: The Witch Queen” has been circulating on YouTube since 24.02. and has been ruthlessly exploited to farm loot and reputation.
What is Cheese? Destiny has a long tradition of players figuring out how to exploit bugs in the game to fill their pockets with minimal effort, and Bungie eventually finds out and – much too late – does something about it:
- Legendary is the “Loot Cave,” where players farmed mobs at a spawn point that seemed to come infinitely as long as no one took a step too far forward.
- Later, tricks to kill strong bosses without them being able to defend themselves spread continuously. Notoriously, there was an exploit where a player had to pull the LAN cable, causing a boss to freeze and be easily slaughtered.
- These exploits spread rapidly through certain YouTube channels within a few days. The downside of such exploits is that players finish Destiny 2 too quickly and then impatiently wait for more content.
Just 2 days after the release of the expansion, the trick went viral
This was the latest exploit: It’s about the new Throne World in Destiny 2: Witch Queen. There is a possibility to farm chests to gain reputation and items.
On 24.02., just 2 days after the release of Witch Queen, the YouTuber KackisHD published a detailed guide on how to exploit this trick to the maximum. KackisHD is known for such videos where “INSANE” is often in the title.
This is what the trick did:
- Normally, players should find only a few of these chests.
- However, due to the trick, it was possible to reset certain zones repeatedly and ruthlessly exploit the loot route by zipping through the zones like an acrobat.
- Thus, players could maximize their reputation in the Throne World and grab many items in a short time.
As one knows from Destiny 2, other content creators also had the idea to spread the trick in their own variations.
Just the video from KackisHD has over 218,000 views and enthusiastic comments.
“Destiny 2 Finch Farm” is such a popular keyword that countless videos from various content creators can be found on it. German YouTubers also like to pick up such guides a few days later.
Typically, levelling the Throne World rank with the new NPC vendor Fynch goes significantly slower. Overall, there are 30 ranks in the Throne World, and for each rank, you need 1000 reputation points.
- Opening chests grants you +20 to your Throne World rank with Fynch.
- Daily bounties grant +50 rank points.
- Additional bounties from Fynch grant +20 rank points.
- Completing a Lost Sector gives +70 rank points.
- Repeating the campaign nets +125 rank points.
- “Altars of Reflection” and Urquell runs also grant +125 rank points.
- Public events grant +130 rank points.
However, due to the chest trick, which granted +200 reputation points each time, players were already finished levelling their rank in a very short time.
We at MeinMMO generally refrain from publishing such exploits with “how-to” guides. But this has never significantly limited the spread of such tricks.
After about a week, Bungie reacts and simply disables everything
This is how Bungie reacts: They fixed it in a hotfix yesterday after a few days delay. They completely shut down the chest because it was “being opened significantly faster” than intended for reputation gain.
