In the midst of worthless junk, a garbage truck driver makes a surprising find: hardware worth over a thousand euros.

What did the garbage truck driver find? A user reports on Reddit that he made a find while on a tour as a garbage truck driver, something that many might envy: gaming hardware that was top of the line a few years ago:
- AMD Threadripper 3960X (Zen 2, like the PS5 Pro)
- Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 Ti
- 32 GB DDR4
- Asus Prime TRX40 Pro
- Unknown power supply
But only at home did it become clear what treasure he had found amidst the junk.
A Gaming Treasure in the Trash
Does the hardware still work? Yes, allegedly the hardware still works. Although the components found were said to be not only dirty but also wet, almost everything works. After cleaning everything thoroughly with alcohol and letting the parts dry for a few days, he was able to start the computer, according to TomsHardware.
He only set aside the power supply and took a new one, as he no longer trusted the old one after its time outside in the weather. He also installed an SSD to test the system.
How valuable is the hardware today? In 2018, when the Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 Ti came out, this system would have been top-notch. The same applies to 2019 when the AMD Threadripper 3960X was released. But even today, the hardware does not have to hide. Especially the CPU with its 24 cores and 48 threads (3.8 to 4.5 GHz) is still good for gaming.
The graphics card is slowly reaching its limits, especially with ray tracing, but as long as you play in 1080p or WQHD, it still serves you well in almost all cases. How much is all this worth used? A look at eBay reveals a considerable sum for used hardware (accessed on November 19, 2024):

- 32 GB DDR4 RAM: Around 50 euros (via eBay)

The Reddit user thus found hardware worth at least around 1,100 euros.
Is useful stuff often found in the trash?
