Trainers compare Pokémon GO with the main series of Pokémon, and it quickly becomes clear that there are significant differences in some areas. Now trainers are demanding a feature in Pokémon GO that has existed in the main series for decades. We have looked into what this is about and will show it to you.
What function is it about? In the main series Pokémon games, such as Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl for the Nintendo DS, trainers have been able to trade with other players worldwide since 2007. The only requirement was a working internet connection. Now, trainers of Pokémon GO are calling for a similar function.
The trading feature in Pokémon GO
Many trainers in Pokémon GO now have international friends. This is also due to the fact that they can invite each other to regional raid battles with the help of remote raid passes, as is currently the case with the lake trio around Mesprit, Uxie, and Azelf.
If these trainers regularly send gifts or interact with each other through raids or PvP battles, their friend level increases. After a total of 90 interactions, they achieve the status of “Best Friends” and have the chance to become lucky friends. This allows them a special trade. These 10 Pokémon should be traded with your lucky friend
Trainers who have already achieved the Best Friends status in Pokémon GO receive the opportunity for the status of “Lucky Friends” after further interactions. This allows them a one-time special lucky trade. The first Pokémon traded after obtaining the lucky friend status becomes a so-called lucky Pokémon, which you can recognize by a golden shimmering background. While the IV of a Pokémon can usually deteriorate significantly during a trade, a lucky trade guarantees that this Pokémon has at least an IV of 80%. Therefore, it is worth trading rare or legendary Pokémon.
Why can’t these trainers trade? In Pokémon GO, unlike other Pokémon games, the trading range is limited. It normally covers a maximum of 100 meters. For certain events, Niantic temporarily expands this distance to up to 40 kilometers.
However, anyone who has many international friends cannot simply trade with them. A personal meeting must take place for that. Many trainers find this poorly resolved and are calling on reddit for the trading distance to be lifted.
What the community is demanding
The reddit user SenseiEntei writes a long post on the platform reddit expressing his frustration. He explains that he has made many international friendships in Pokémon GO over the last three years and would like to trade some Pokémon in a lucky trade.
However, he does not know these trainers personally, and a meeting is unrealistic for him. This frustrates him and contradicts his understanding of friendship and interacting through gifts. To change this, he calls on Niantic to lift the trading distance, at least for Best Friends.
Others trainers also agree in the comments. Many have had similar experiences as SenseiEntei and are making similar demands:
- gregcresci: “At least make the lucky trade global!”
- zecmo: “I think they should allow it at least for lucky friends. The two trainers have at least worked on it for a minimum of 90 days and, as we know, normally much more.”
- SenseiEntei: “This change would not even benefit spoofers but would actually reduce the incentive for spoofing.”
- Kdog0073: “Those who say it’s against going out and exploring could easily connect it with various tasks, like spinning 7 new stops, walking 50 km in a week, etc., to receive a remote trade pass.”
SenseiEntei also suggests that the number of global trades could be limited or associated with some energy expenditure, similar to interacting with Pokémon Home.
However, some trainers do not believe that such a function will be implemented. HoGoNMero sees particular concerns about the gaming interest of hardcore players (via reddit.com). This would allow them to obtain a full Pokédex faster and they might lose interest in the game.
Indeed, lifting the trading distance could be interesting for many trainers as it would finally give them the opportunity to conduct their lucky trades with distant friends. Through targeted measures to make such trades not too easy, the enjoyment of hardcore players could also be preserved.
Whether Niantic is considering a change to the trading distance for lucky friends is not yet known. If there is official information on this, you will learn about it here, on MeinMMO.
What do you think of the demand to increase the trading distance? Do you also have many international friends with whom you could make a lucky trade? And which Pokémon would you trade first? Feel free to share your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments.
By the way, a trainer has found a trick on how to catch Zamazenta, even though it is currently not available in the game. We looked into how he did it and will show it to you.
