Since last Friday, you can find Shiny Riolu in Pokémon GO. Getting the new Shiny could be quite expensive. Trainers have calculated that you have to spend 150 euros for the theoretical chance.
Here’s what it’s about: In the Sinnoh event, which ends tonight, February 10th, at 10 PM, Shiny Riolu is appearing for the first time from the eggs. It is even a bit more common to find in 7-km eggs.
However, if you want to have a Shiny Riolu in the end, you’ll have to dig deep into your pocket to have a good chance. You need to spend around 150 euros to have a good probability.
700 eggs for a Shiny Riolu
Here’s how it was calculated: Riolu hatches from the eggs during the Sinnoh event with a chance of about 1 in 14. Additionally, there’s the Shiny chance of baby Pokémon, which is 1 in 50.
If you combine these two chances, the probability is 1 in 700 that you get a Shiny Riolu from an egg. This means you need to hatch 700 eggs to obtain the desired Shiny.
How expensive is the fun? If you want to hatch 700 eggs and not rely on the free incubator, you need to buy a total of 234 incubators.
If you buy the incubators currently in the adventure box, you need to buy 13 boxes, as there are currently 18 incubators per box.
To purchase 13 boxes, you need 19,240 coins, which correspond to a value of about 150 euros. At least, you would have to buy the coin bundles for 109.99€ and for 43.99€. Strictly speaking, that puts you at 153.98€, but you would still have 460 coins left.
This is what reality looks like: The chance of Riolu is only increased during the Sinnoh event. So, to “only” have to hatch 700 eggs, you would have to get them all during the Sinnoh event.
However, that’s not possible, as the Sinnoh event lasts only one weekend. You can’t open that many gifts per day to get a total of the 700 7-km eggs.
On the best day, you could receive about 40 eggs from gifts. If you got that many eggs on all 4 event days, you would only come to 160 eggs, not the required 700 eggs.
Things to consider in the calculations: Of course, everything here revolves around probabilities. You could also have had a Shiny Riolu in the first egg or hatch 1,000 eggs and still not get the coveted Shiny. So, if you already have a Shiny Riolu, you can consider yourself lucky.
This calculation only shows that Shiny Riolu is incredibly rare and can become quite expensive if you really want it.
Additionally, you must consider that this chance was only calculated for the Sinnoh event. Outside of the event, Riolu is significantly rarer in the eggs, making it necessary to have even more luck or spend even more money in the future.
Already at the release of Riolu last year, players calculated that you have to spend 50 euros to have a good chance at the coveted Pokémon.
