Many trainers set their own personal goals in Pokémon GO that they want to achieve. One of these goals is a complete Living Dex. But this dream of the trainers is now threatened to burst. We from MeinMMO have taken a look at what it’s all about.
What dream is it? Already Ash had the big goal of catching all Pokémon in the anime. And many trainers in Pokémon GO want to fulfill this dream as well. But some of them even go a step further. For them, simply registering in the Pokédex is not enough, which is why they are working towards a so-called complete “Living Dex”.
In doing so, they collect every single evolutionary stage of the various monsters in their Pokémon storage. But also the respective special specimens, such as costumed Pokémon or Cryptos, should often not be missing from the collection. Now a trainer wants to give up this long-awaited dream of a complete Living Dex and explains in an emotional statement why.
Trainer explains: “It’s just too much”
What goal did he have? Like many trainers, the reddit user thefierybreeze worked towards a complete Living Dex. But now he wants to let this dream burst, as he reveals in his reddit post. In an emotional post, he shares his thoughts and feelings with the community (via reddit.com).
As thefierybreeze explains, he always wanted to have a complete Living Dex and therefore collected all forms, evolutionary stages, and the different genders of the individual Pokémon in the past.
Eventually, Cryptos and redeemed monsters were added to his collection, as well as lucky Pokémon as strong candidates for the GO battle league, monsters with high IVs, and of course costumed specimens. Over time, quite a bit accumulated in his Pokémon storage.
Why does he want to give up the Living Dex? The reason for the possible abandonment of his dream was a new update. With the introduction of different sizes and weights for the monsters, it suddenly became clear to him that it had simply become too much over time, and therefore he is considering drawing a line. He writes:
It’s just too much to manage, my storage is full of trash monsters just because I cling to having one of the 12 different Bulbasaur, no one will ever look at that. And now they have introduced weight and size differences. It really feels like they’ve tipped the barrel over here. Everything is already documented in the Pokédex, so why should I hoard all this? It’s time to give up the spoon and only collect 92% IVs and Shinies, apart from the valuable ones for trading, raids, and battles.

Following his explanation, he seeks support in the community and asks if other trainers have experienced something similar and how they dealt with it.

Support from the community: In the community, the post from thefierybreeze elicits some reactions. Many understand that he does not want to hold on to his dream anymore. Thus, one can read the following in the comments (via reddit.com):
- OpaFuchsi: “Honestly: Do what is best for your mental health. That’s all that matters. If you are stressed because you have to keep up with a living Dex: quit it. If you are stressed out by GBL [GO battle league] or other parts of this game: stop playing, quit it, ignore it. We are talking about a game that is played by people within the Pokémon bubble. No one – and I mean no one – cares about what someone has in their Dex or storage.”
- IntroductionDry767: “I have several Dexes, but I can’t help but agree 100%. Do this for yourself and your own fulfillment. Everything beyond that is a burden on your mental energy. If it’s too much, it’s not fun.”
- Deed3: “I can confirm that no one has ever asked me about my stats, and I have been to personal events like GO Fest. Aside from you, no one really cares.”
- inquisitive_chemist: “So well said. I used to invest an insane amount of time hunting for Shinies. But it just became stressful […] I now play very casually and enjoy the game much more.”
Alternative suggestions: Other trainers try to encourage thefierybreeze not to give up his dream of the Living Dex so easily. Some reddit users report that they simply transfer their monsters to Pokémon Home and maintain a Living Dex there.
So does the user Zelfild, who writes the following (via reddit.com): “The only place where a Living Dex matters to me is Pokémon Home, where I keep most of my valuable catches from GO that I would not otherwise use or throw away. […] I can’t imagine what a logistical nightmare it is to maintain a Living Dex in GO. You have my respect.”
Whether thefierybreeze has actually given up his Living Dex or followed the advice of some trainers and sent his monsters to Pokémon Home, however, is not clear from the post.
