The South Korean developer Netmarble is reportedly working on a mobile MMO based on Game of Thrones. An initial teaser hints at how the adaptation of the series could look on your smartphones.
What kind of game is this? So far, not much is known about the new game. Besides the teaser, only a few details about the new mobile MMO based on Game of Thrones have been released.
Netmarble is collaborating with the American TV provider HBO, which also produced the series based on the books by George R.R. Martin.
According to Netmarble, the game is supposed to “combine the deep experience of a single-player game” with the large-scale experience of a multiplayer title. Players could experience an unknown story in the world of Westeros while also creating their own narrative (via inven.co).
- Westeros is said to function as an open world
- One can get involved in conflicts between characters
- Fights against White Walkers are also supposed to be included
Although it is a mobile game, the game is expected to have strong visuals. It is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and features such as constantly changing weather conditions have already been announced.
Teaser shows familiar motifs from the GOT series
The teaser shows many things that fans of the series may find familiar:
- One can see the iconic Wall that was built in the North to keep beings like the White Walkers at bay.
- A dragon fights beyond the Wall against wights and giants.
- The Night King also appears at the end of the teaser. It looks quite similar to the scene on the frozen lake from Season 7.
- Additionally, the official music from the series can be heard.
The MMO could therefore be set during the same time as the series or at least reference the events from the series.
However, further information, such as a release date, requirements, or more details about the game, is not yet available. It seems to be still early in the development phase.
Who is Netmarble? Netmarble primarily operates in the mobile sector and has released games such as “The Seven Deadly Sins”, “Lineage 2 Revolution” or “Marvel Future Revolution“. The superhero game also relied on a well-known franchise, an open game world, and good graphics.
With Game of Thrones, the next license is apparently being added. Its creator, George R.R. Martin, was also involved in the new FromSoftware game Elden Ring. Those who need new fantasy content and aren’t afraid of a tough difficulty level might find Elden Ring just right.
