A new trailer for the upcoming expansion Beyond Light of Destiny 2 shows for the first time how the new element Stasis will work. The short trailer features clips from PvE and PvP.
What’s in the trailer: Bungie released a new trailer for Beyond Light, the upcoming expansion, during the Xbox Game Showcase. It provides a glimpse of what to expect there.
Specifically, it showcases how the new element Stasis looks in action – both in PvP and PvE. Although the trailer is just over a minute long, it demonstrates quite well what the new classes will be capable of:
The trailer was released along with the announcement that Destiny 2 will run on Xbox Series X at 4K with 60 FPS and will come to Game Pass.
A first in Destiny 2: Finally a new element
What exactly does Stasis do? Stasis seems to utilize effects typically associated with frost effects in other games. Enemies can apparently be put into “Stasis”, essentially freezing them, and then shattered with powerful attacks.
Moreover, it seems possible to create constructs and walls with Stasis. Guardians use these in various ways in the trailer:
- for creating pillars and platforms on walls, allowing the whole team to safely traverse chasms
- to give themselves a vertical boost and jump higher
- or to block enemies and obstruct their line of sight and fire
- it may even be possible to create shields in some way – but that could also just be an attack animation
The new element seems to be quite versatile and relies heavily on teamwork. Learn more in our article about what we already know about the new Stasis subclasses.
Beyond Light will be released on November 10, 2020, after a delay. From then on, you can also play the new subclasses.
What’s so exciting about it? Stasis is the first new element in Destiny overall and for the first time actively utilizes darkness – the opposite of the light that Guardians are supposedly dedicated to.
Darkness is actually the element used by the enemy. So it is a complete novelty that the classes of Destiny now have access to it and can utilize it.
