The story is quite harsh for a children’s series and has been criticized for that. Nevertheless, the story is tragic.
Tragosso – The eternally sad Pokémon
Haven’t you ever wondered why Tragosso wears this skull mask? The story behind this mask is very sad.
Whose skull bone is it? Tragosso wears the skull of its deceased mother, Knogga. When Team Rocket came to Lavandia to catch Pokémon, they also wanted to catch Tragosso and Knogga. Knogga protected her child and was killed in the battle with Team Rocket.
Once only bones were left of Knogga, Tragosso returned to its mother and put on the skull bone. Since then, no one has ever seen a Tragosso without the mask.
Why does Tragosso wear the skull? With this, Tragosso wants to be close to its mother. It is a lone wolf, and when it recognizes its mother in the moonlight, it starts crying bitterly. Stains have even formed on its mask from its many tears.
What is Tragosso’s habitat? In the console games, Tragosso primarily lived around Lavandia. There stood the Pokémon Tower, which was considered the resting place of deceased Pokémon. An episode of the anime revolved around this tower. A ghost of Knogga haunted this tower. It was the spirit of the deceased Knogga, which could not find peace. Ash and his friends helped Tragosso see its mother one last time before it disappeared forever.

PokéDex entry: Tragosso longs for its mother, who is no longer there. When it sees its mother’s likeness in the full moon, it has to cry. The spots on the skull it wears come from the tears shed.
Tragosso and its evolution have not played a major role in Pokémon GO so far. The stats of the Pokémon are poor, and Knogga can reach a maximum of 1835 CP. As an attacker, it is thus useless.
There is a Shiny: In the Ingress Prime release event, Tragosso was caught in large numbers. There, the shiny form of the Pokémon was also implemented in the game.
Moreover, Tragosso is needed to successfully complete the Special Research for Meltan.
Will it be interesting for PvP? Knogga can reach just over 1800 CP. In trainer battles, there are three leagues that have different CP limits. Knogga could shine in the league under 1500 CP. There is hardly any comparable Ground-type Pokémon in that league.
