Until January 13th, you can vote for Team of the Year (TOTY) in Ultimate Team in EA FC 25. On MeinMMO, we have taken a close look at the 84 nominees for the men’s TOTY and we will tell you which 5 players have most deserved a spot among the best players of the year 2024 based on their performances.
Based on which criteria did we evaluate the players? In order to compare real performances, we referred to the ratings from the well-known sports analysis website Sofascore. We looked at the average scores (ratings from 1 for poor to 10 for good performances) from the last 12 months in the following competitions:
- domestic league
- international club competitions of UEFA (Champions League, Europa League, Conference League)
- major international tournaments of national teams (European Championship, Copa América)
The 5 players who would have deserved a spot in the TOTY based on their performances either delivered strong performances in at least 2 of the 3 competitions or particularly excelled in one of the 3 competitions with their average scores.
5 candidates who deserve a TOTY for their performances
Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) – TOTY Defender
Kimmich is among the nominated defenders for the TOTY among the players who have impressed both in the league and in the Champions League with strong performances. With powerful passes and free kicks, he is always able to create great chances for his team:
- average score in the league: 7.69
- average score in the Champions League: 7.41
- average score at the European Championship: 7.74
With this, Kimmich reaches an overall average of 7.63 across all 3 competitions as the only defender among the nominees.
What also particularly supports Kimmich is his strong average rating at the European Championship. With a score of 7.74, the German international was statistically one of the best players of the tournament.
Cole Palmer (Chelsea) – TOTY Midfielder
2024 was an outstanding year for Cole Palmer in the English Premier League, the strongest league in the world. He scored 26 goals for Chelsea and provided another 13 assists. And this, even though he mostly plays not as a forward, but as an attacking midfielder.
- average score in the league: 7.97
- average score in the Conference League: 6.85
- average score at the European Championship: 6.90
On Sofascore, due to his outstanding performances in the league, he has an average rating of 7.93 over the past 12 months. This puts him behind Messi (MLS), Gyökeres (Liga Portugal), and Rodri (Premier League) as the player with the best average score within the domestic league.
However, his rating carries even more weight, considering that the level in the Premier League is far stronger and Chelsea as a club had a very poor season by their own standards. But Palmer was always reliable.
Raphinha (Barcelona) – TOTY Forward
The Brazilian had the best year of his career in 2024. With consistently strong performances, he has now secured the captain’s armband at Barcelona. 23 goals and 12 assists in the league and Champions League underline his outstanding performances.
- average score in the league: 7.75
- average score in the Champions League: 8.10
- average score at the Copa América: 7.13
Looking only at his games for Barcelona, Raphinha has an average rating in the league and Champions League of about 7.93. Thus, he is among the players with the best scores at club level of all nominated players.
Moreover, no other player in the Champions League, the premier competition in football, has such a strong average score (8.10) in 2024.
Rodri (Manchester City) – TOTY Midfielder
Of course, the player who was awarded the title of the best footballer in the world in 2024 must be in the TOTY. Rodri has been consistently playing at a world-class level for several years now, whether at club level or for the Spanish national team. With the Spaniards, Rodri secured the well-deserved European Championship title in 2024 in Germany as the player of the tournament.
- average score in the league: 8.00
- average score in the Champions League: 7.68
- average score at the European Championship: 7.25
In his position as Central Defensive Midfielder, it is harder to shine with good ratings since he primarily has to focus on defensive duties and organizing the build-up play. Nevertheless, Rodri is also a reliable guarantee for goals and assists in tight games.
The extent of the Spaniard’s influence became clear since his serious injury at the end of September 2024. Since his absence, the overpowering team of Manchester City has struggled severely and lost its footing in the league.

Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) – TOTY Midfielder
If Florian Wirtz had also won the Europa League (loss in the final) and the home European Championship (loss in the quarterfinal) with Leverkusen after the unbeaten championship season in the Bundesliga 23/24 and the DFB-Pokal victory, he would also have been a serious contender for the award of World Footballer of the Year.
But even without these titles, Wirtz had an individually fantastic year in 2024. 21 goals and 11 assists prove the importance of the attacking midfielder in 2024.

- average score in the Champions League/Europa League: 7.76
- average score at the European Championship: 7.42
With an average rating of 7.68 across all competitions, Wirtz can consider himself as one of the most consistent performers of 2024. Given that Wirtz will only turn 22 in 2025, one can imagine how much potential still lies in this German dribbler for the next seasons.
