Wargaming and Sega, along with their development studio Creative Assembly, have recently announced a strategic collaboration. Under the name “Wargaming Alliance”, the first title to be released will be an online strategy game called Total War: Arena.
Wargaming – known for the online games World of Tanks and World of Warships – is further expanding its role as a publisher and has recently partnered with Sega and the studio Creative Assembly. The result of this partnership is a new label called “Wargaming Alliance”. Through this collaboration, Sega aims to benefit from Wargaming’s experience in the free-to-play sector, while Wargaming gains access to major brands such as the Total War series.
The first title set to be released under Wargaming Alliance has already been established: it is an online strategy game called “Total War: Arena”.
What is Total War: Arena?
But what exactly is Total War: Arena? According to Wargaming, the game will be a free-to-play title where 10 players compete against each other. Each player commands three units, which come from the typical ancient civilizations, such as Roman legionnaires or Spartan hoplites. Additionally, we have a particularly strong general along with a bodyguard. Each of our teammates commands a similar force, resulting in a considerable army.
However, how exactly online Total War plays is still uncertain at this point, and we also do not have any information about an alpha or beta date yet. The project sounds exciting. In a YouTube video by the channel Pixelated Apollo, we can already take a closer look at the gameplay from the first alpha version. We have embedded the video for you here, enjoy!
