Since June 2020, Torchlight 3 has been in Early Access. It had a disastrous launch on Steam and faced a lot of criticism. We will show you what to expect in the release version of Torchlight 3 and what the course of the game has been so far.
What to expect on the release of Torchlight 3
What to expect: As usual, you can expect hack and slash battles in Torchlight 3, similar to what you know from the ARPG series. Especially if you love playing with friends, the co-op mode for up to 4 players offers you that opportunity. You can even live in a large fort, if you earn it.
In three acts, you will play the story of the game with many quests and boss fights that you can also experience offline as a single-player.
According to different play styles, TL 3 offers you four classes.
- Dusk Mage – The spellcasting class that uses light and darkness
- Robot Smith – A robot with a large arsenal of weapons
- Rail Fighter – A “locomotive-like powerhouse” that enters battle with a big hammer and a train
- Sniper – The ranged fighter with precise skills and magical trinkets
What is the story about? “Torchlight III takes place a century after the events of Torchlight II, where players defeated the Dark Alchemist and sealed the heart of the Netherlord within the clockwork core. The heroes brought peace to the world of Novastraia, but now the Emberstone Empire is on the brink of collapse, as the Netherim and their allies are back. To save Novastraia, players in Torchlight III must wisely and bravely seek glory, honor, and new adventures on the front line,” the official description states.

How has it gone so far for Torchlight 3?
A disastrous start: Right at the beginning, Torchlight 3 did not fare well on Steam. When we reported on it on June 15, two days after the release, 66% of the 2022 reviews on Steam were negative.
- The combat system was too slow for players
- The areas were too simple and linear
- The character development felt uninspired and superficial to players
- The higher difficulties only changed health points and damage from opponents but did not lead to more challenging behavior
At the end of June, we at MeinMMO took another close look at how things were developing for Torchlight 3. The Steam reviews rose from 34% positive to 43% positive. Players positively noted that the developers were listening to feedback. A major update was released on June 30, bringing more story, new locations, dungeons, and additional bosses and enemies into the game.
What do the ratings look like now? Overall, as of September 29, Torchlight 3 has 4770 ratings on Steam at 6:26 PM. Of those, 46% are positive. The 228 ratings from the last few days look even better, with 56% being positive.
