What kind of game is Children of Morta? It is an action RPG where players control not just a single character but switch between a whole family of heroes as they fight through dungeons and defeat enemies.
It is a Roguelite, whose dungeons are procedurally generated – this means that the environment builds itself during gameplay based on algorithms and looks different each time.
What is Children of Morta about? You play as the Bergson family, fighting against the corruption that spreads across the land. The main characters achieve this by freeing three nature spirits and using their help to defeat the game’s villain, Ou, who resides in the mountain named “Morta.”

When you level up, not only one character becomes stronger, but the entire family does. There is no permadeath in Children of Morta and before entering a dungeon, you can choose which character you want to play.
Whenever you defeat enemies, you earn skill points. These, in turn, can be used to make your characters even stronger.
Within the dungeons, you will encounter various types of enemies, ranging from small creatures to massive bosses. You also need to watch out for hidden traps, which you can also use in combat, as they deal damage to the enemy as well.

Who are the family members in Children of Morta? You have the choice between seven different family members, each with their own unique abilities:
- John is a warrior who fights with shield and sword
- Linda is a ranged attacker who uses a bow
- Kevin is a rogue character who uses shadows and daggers
- Lucy is a mage who uses fire and storms
- Mark is a martial arts master who operates in close combat
- Joey is a berserker who defeats enemies with a hammer
- Apan is a support character who uses self-healing and crowd control.
How does the coop work in the game? You can play Children of Morta in online co-op with others. You have the option of playing both the story mode and the so-called family trials mode. A local co-op mode is also available.
How does Children of Morta perform on metacritic? The game has its own rating on the metacritic website for each platform on which it is available. The metascore is 80 for the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions, and 82 for PC, which is very positive.
The user score ranges between 8.2 and 8.4 across platforms and is also very good (as of November 4, 2022, via metacritic).
