In Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4 & Xbox One) the combination of two pump shotguns was clearly too strong and got nerfed. However, apparently the “Double Pump Trick” still works with some skill.
In Fortnite: Battle Royale there was a simple and extremely effective trick: You equipped two of the commonly found pump shotguns and went hunting. The shotguns need to be reloaded after each shot, so the fire rate is low.
However, if you switched to the second weapon immediately after shooting, you could bypass the reload animation and deal a lot of damage very quickly.
To the dismay of the “Double Pump fans” and to the delight of their victims, this “feature” was nerfed in Fortnite with Update 3.0. Or was it?
The Rhythm of Death
Since Update 3.0 of Fortnite, you have to wait for the reload animation of the shotgun every time before you can shoot with another weapon. However, there seems to be a trick to shoot quickly with two shotguns anyway.
The YouTuber TSM Daequan demonstrated in a video how to apply the new trick:
- You shoot the first shotgun
- You switch to the second shotgun and as soon as the pumping sound occurs, you shoot again immediately
- Then you can switch back to Weapon 1 without delay and shoot again immediately.
The trick this time is the rhythm. Whoever has it can still shoot quickly with their shotguns and deal massive damage. However, if you miss the timing, you have to start over and fire a shot with Weapon 1 and reload before continuing the chain.
The video from TSM Daequan is embedded here for you.
Is this an exploit?
To what extent this new double pump method is intended by the developers is currently being hotly debated. Some players think it is an exploit and that Epic Games will fix it soon anyway.
Other players say, “Hey, you need real skill for this now, before any noob could do it, now it’s a trick for real pros!” They think that the new trick will stay.
If the double pump trick has become too difficult for you, you can settle for other quick-shot methods.
