The release of the Forsaken expansion has given the online shooter Destiny 2 a strong boost in digital revenue in September. On PC, the online shooter Crossfire managed to climb up thanks to an update, while World of Warcraft lost some places.
As every month, the market research institute SuperData has again announced which games have generated the most digital revenue. This time, the games of September 2018 are analyzed. Boxed versions are not included in the statistics.
Forsaken takes Destiny 2 to the top: The expansion Forsaken reignited the enthusiasm for Bungie’s online shooter Destiny 2, after the game did not appear in the SuperData charts at all in August. According to the market research institute, 60 percent of active Destiny 2 players purchased the expansion.
Overall, $1.24 billion was spent on digital games in September. In the same period of the previous year, it was still $912 million.
Crossfire rises, WoW falls
There have been some changes in the PC charts: While Dungeon Fighter Online remains at number 1, the MOBA League of Legends has pushed up from rank 3 to position 2. At number 3, we now find the online shooter Crossfire, whose large September update is likely responsible for the increased popularity. Fantasy Westward Journey 2 rises from position 6 to rank 4.
In World of Warcraft, it seems that most players – typical for the expansions of the MMORPG – have already consumed the new content of the addon Battle for Azeroth, as the MMORPG fell from position 3 to rank 5.
Rank 6 is occupied by the Battle Royale shooter Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, which had taken position 8 in August. Position 7 belongs to Monster Hunter World.
At rank 8, we find Fortnite and position 9 is occupied by World of Tanks. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is climbing into the charts and takes position 10, which is likely also linked to the increasing popularity of the shooter on Twitch.
Forsaken helps Destiny 2 to the top – 60% buy Forsaken
Forsaken celebrates a triumphant return: The release of the expansion Forsaken has not only brought Destiny 2 back into the console charts but has positioned the online shooter directly at number 1!
In second place, we find Marvel’s Spider-Man, which is making an impressive victory march despite being PS4 exclusive. The FIFA series is as popular as ever, which is why FIFA 19 has debuted directly at position 3.
3 players stronger than Fortnite now on PS4, Xbox One
Fortnite must make way against the three leaders of September and drops to rank 4. NBA 2K19 debuts at position 5, while FIFA 18 is found at position 6 after the release of its successor.
Call of Duty: WW2 is at position 7 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider debuts at position 8 in the charts. Position 9 is occupied by Grand Theft Auto 5, which has to endure a drop from position 3 of the previous month. Rank 10 is occupied by Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds.
Hardly any movement in Mobile Games
Old acquaintances in mobile games: The charts of mobile games show hardly any changes compared to August. Only the lower areas saw adjustments. Candy Crush Saga has moved up to position 8, Monster Strike has dropped to position 9, and Clash of Clans is now found at rank 10.
