A hotfix has just ensured that there are many fewer funny deaths in World of Warcraft. After all, those were always a reason for laughter.
If you, like me, play a priest in World of Warcraft, you do not do it to protect your teammates and save them from danger, but to make them suffer cruelly. Why else do I have the spell Leap of Faith, with which I can pull a player to me? Right, to pull them directly into fire or over an edge. That’s why I have also reveled in the many deaths caused by a certain trinket in World of Warcraft.
Unfortunately, Blizzard has fixed this now, along with an adjustment to the visions, so the times of schadenfreude and loud laughter are temporarily over.
What is it about? We are talking about the trinket Humming Black Dragon Scale. This is an item that drops from the first boss, N’Zoth, in Ny’alotha. It has an effect that is triggered randomly in combat. It increases the character’s haste rating and speed for a whopping 15 seconds and equips the character with impressive wings, that I’m of course not envious of at all.
However, what the trinket did not reveal was that characters also had “Slow Fall” on them during this effect, thus reducing fall speed. This led to some pretty funny moments.
Since the trinket activated automatically in combat and 15 seconds is a long time, it resulted in numerous player deaths.
What did players die from? Many enemies in Battle for Azeroth have knockback mechanics that fling the character several meters through the air. That’s basically not that bad. If you stand in the right position, not much happens. However, if the trinket was active at that exact moment, a flight of 5 meters could easily turn into a journey of more than 20 meters – straight into abysses, mob groups, the next raid boss, or the deadly flames of an ability.

Similar things happen in dungeons or raids with multiple levels, so when you have to go down stairs or jump somewhere. A careless press of the space bar suddenly turned into a long journey of the character that ended with a timid “sorry” in the group chat when I was once again responsible for the wipe.
Honestly: My boundless envy of those cool wings could be well dampened when a character sailed into the abyss with a panicked scream in Discord. I was almost a little glad not to have gotten the trinket yet.
At least Blizzard is making another class happy right now – the hunters.
This is what Blizzard has changed: With a hotfix, the Dragon Scale no longer works as it did before. Instead of having Slow Fall as a passive effect, it is now an additional, active ability. Those wearing the legendary cloak along with the Dragon Scale can now activate the slow fall deliberately. “Slow Fall” is no longer tied to the triggering of the attribute buff.
This is certainly better for gameplay, but definitely a step back for my personal amusement. Fortunately, there are other things in BfA that are really good.
Did you also have some funny deaths due to the Humming Black Dragon Scale?
