It won’t be long until FIFA 20 is replaced by its successor. Tonight, EA Sports will present FIFA 21 and we are curious about the new features.
Update: Here are the first details about FIFA 21 – release date, trailer, new features as well as everything about the different versions of FIFA 21
Except for the obligatory title (FIFA 21), not much is known about the new FIFA installment yet. However, after the EA Play event, which takes place on the night of Friday, June 19 (at 01:00 AM), we should know more.
What will be shown tonight? We expect a teaser trailer during the event that will present the first gameplay scenes. Perhaps even with next-gen graphics from the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.
However, we shouldn’t expect gameplay innovations to be revealed tonight; EA will present those in August. The developer announced this via Twitter, on an information roadmap:
The first details about FIFA 21
What we know about VOLTA: The roadmap indicates that with VOLTA, street football will also make a return in FIFA 21. New information is expected to arrive in August.
Maybe VOLTA will finally get a cool new online mode? Or even its own version of Pro Clubs? We are looking forward to it.
What we know about other game modes: Whether FIFA 21 will receive a major new mode is still unknown. However, it seems that the modes from the predecessor will also return in FIFA 21.
It will be exciting to see how extensive Pro Clubs and the career mode will be revamped.
When will FIFA 21 be released? There is currently no release date for FIFA 21. However, it seems certain that the Corona crisis will not lead to any delays (via kicker). Therefore, we expect a normal release in September.
The 25th of September appears to be a realistic date, as FIFA games often release on the last Friday of September.
What new features could there be?
Will there be crossplay? Currently, it is already possible to play cross-platform in many games. It doesn’t matter whether you play on a PS4, an Xbox One, or a PC. Games like Warzone, Fortnite, or Rocket League set the example. This feature would also be long overdue for FIFA.
Will the next installment finally include it? There is currently no official information about crossplay.
What about the next-gen versions? It seems certain that FIFA 21 will be released on the next-gen consoles: Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. EA has already teased this on Twitter:
However, it is not clear whether a purchased PS4 version will automatically upgrade to the PS5 version. The American football game Madden 21, also developed by EA, has already announced exactly this. There will be free next-gen upgrades for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
However, it seems certain that thanks to backward compatibility of the new consoles, you can at least play the old versions.
These innovations we wish for
What FIFA 21 must improve: For the new FIFA installment, we already presented you in April our wishes for innovations and improvements. These points were particularly important to us:
- Better and more stable servers
- A complete overhaul of the career mode
- More love for Pro Clubs
- New VOLTA online modes
- Better management cards for Ultimate Team
What improvements and new features we will actually get, we will only know for sure in August when EA releases details about the new installment. But perhaps something big will already be announced tonight during EA Play 2020. We remain curious.
