Where does the info come from? So far, there has been no official announcement from Sony itself, but the news magazine Gameswirtschaft reports that they have seen plenty of screenshots and emails (via gameswirtschaft.de). Since these are supposed to be official emails and invitations, we consider a sale today pretty likely – unless Sony cancels the sale beforehand.
When is the sale supposed to start? In the quoted emails and screenshots, it states that there should be another PS5 sale today, January 25, 2022. Gameswirtschaft mentions a time between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
What is the advantage of PlayStation Direct? PlayStation Direct is Sony’s direct sales channel. You purchase your hardware directly from Sony and not through a third party or a shop. Returns or warranty cases are also handled directly through Sony, which can save time.

How does the sale work at PlayStation Direct? First, there is a drawback: You can only buy one PS5 at the start of the event if you have received an email with a personalized link. You then access Sony’s shop through this link and can purchase a PS5 and the corresponding accessories.
Therefore, our tip: Check your email inbox directly and see if you received a link to Sony Direct. Then you can prepare for the drop today.
However, Sony had also previously opened the waiting line to general interested parties during the last sales events. If you do not have an invitation link, you can still hope for a PS5. The chances are significantly lower though, as many users will utilize this opportunity.
How can you pay? According to Sony’s official FAQ, there are currently only two payment methods (via direct.playstation.com). At the current time, you can only pay with Visa or Mastercard at PlayStation Direct in Germany. There are no other options available yet. Bill, direct debit, transfer, or PayPal are not accepted.
