When does it start? The launch of WoW Classic is today at midnight – precisely at 00:01 on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. Queues are virtually guaranteed: The demand for WoW Classic will be high. So high that Blizzard has already issued warnings. On some servers, there will be queues of several hours – sometimes the queue might be too full. If you are still flexible and can convince your friends, you should consider switching to a realm that is not marked as “full”.
You won’t see all players: Even if you play on the same realm as your friends (which is strongly recommended!), it may be that you won’t encounter them in the world. This is because WoW Classic will initially use a “layering” technique. This splits the game world into multiple copies along with the players. This article explains how layering works.
But don’t worry: You can switch to your friends whenever you form a party. Then all party members switch to the layer of the party leader.
The layering will gradually be turned off as players spread across multiple areas. In the end, all players on a realm will share a world together again.
