After the flooding on the Fortnite map, the water is slowly receding. Familiar places are being revealed again, and after today’s change, it seems that the map will become even larger.
This is what’s happening in Fortnite: After a large part of the map was flooded at the start of Season 3, the water has been receding for several weeks now. Places that we already knew from the Season 2 map are being revealed again.
However, the changes have also brought new locations, and the map seems to be becoming a bit larger now.
This is how the map has changed
If you look at the Fortnite map now, it seems that the water has almost completely receded. The whole island is back in one piece and does not consist of smaller “islets”. You can see:
- Steamy Stacks, which is no longer underwater
- New areas forming around Slurpy Swamps
- Camp Cod, which is no longer flooded
- Sweaty Sands, which looks like it did before
When comparing the current map with that from Season 2, it seems to be a bit larger than before, which is likely due to the new locations that Season 3 has brought. The larger map could also offer some opportunities to drive around the island with the new drivable cars, which are supposed to arrive in a few weeks.

A larger map also means more loot opportunities for players. Once the new locations are explored, players will likely spread out across the entire map to gather their loot for the fight.
However, the locations where mini-bosses are found will likely remain popular, as there you can find mythical weapons that are quite strong.
Has the final stage of the water level been reached?
This is what dataminers say: According to dataminers, we have reached the final stage before the water completely recedes from the map. Then the map should take on its original form and all new locations will be revealed.
They suspect that the water will fully recede on Saturday, August 1. If that really happens, players won’t have to wait long anymore.
However, one location has not yet been revealed: The Ruins. Leaks suggest that a new location will appear when the water has fully receded. Some suspect that Aquaman, who can be unlocked in Season 3, may be behind this. Now we must wait to see if the leaks are indeed correct and if we will soon be expecting a new location in the style of Atlantis.
