Tonight, February 25th, a big event kicks off in Pokémon GO for Pokémon Day. Mewtwo returns and additional bonuses are waiting for you.
Here’s why we’re celebrating: On February 27, 1996, the first Pokémon video games were released in Japan. Since then, Pokémon Day has been celebrated on this date.
The celebrations are also taking place in Pokémon GO. Last year, for example, Shiny Pidgey and Rattata were introduced. In 2020, Armored Mewtwo returns and Clone Pokémon invade the raids.
Look forward to these bonuses on Pokémon Day
How long does the event last? Even though it’s about Pokémon Day, the celebration lasts an entire week. From February 25 at 10:00 PM to March 2 at 10:00 PM, the bonuses are active.
What bonuses are there? This time it’s all about Clone Pokémon and party hat-wearing monsters:
- Pikachu and Eevee with party hats appear in the wild
- Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle with party hats hatch from 7 km eggs and are in level 1 raids
- Armored Mewtwo with Psystrike can be found in level 5 raids
- The Clone Pokémon of Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise appear in level 4 raids
- You can do two special trades per day
What are Clone Pokémon? These special Pokémon are also known from the anime movies. At first glance, they look like normal Pokémon but have small differences.
They have stripes or spots on their skin, and upon closer inspection, you’ll recognize the clone.
Are there any special spawns? Only Eevee and Pikachu with party hats are known as special spawns in the wild. Eevee is appearing with a party hat for the first time, making a shiny one quite rare.
Pikachu with a party hat, on the other hand, is appearing for the second time. It last appeared in January during the hatching marathon.
It is not known if more Pokémon will spawn in larger numbers. We’ll have to wait for the event to start this evening.
Is Armored Mewtwo worth it? This special Mewtwo is available in Pokémon GO for the second time, the last time it was available was in July 2019. It is not particularly useful for raids; the normal form of Mewtwo is far more useful.
In the Hyper League in PvP, however, Armored Mewtwo is one of the best Pokémon. So if you enjoy playing in this league, you should secure Armored Mewtwo.
Additionally, you’ll also receive more Mewtwo candies, which you can use for the normal Mewtwo as well. Raids are therefore worthwhile.
Raid Day with Nidorino and Gengar
Here’s what else to expect in the event: On the upcoming Sunday, March 1st, a Raid Day with Nidorino and Gengar will take place. Both will wear party hats during raids.
The Raid Day runs from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and will provide you with one of the two raids at each gym for 3 hours.
What you should know about the Pokémon: Gengar will have the moves Lick and Psychic during the 3 hours, as was the case in the last Raid Day with Gengar.
Nidorino and Gengar can also be caught as shiny during the 3 hours.
There’s something free: Within the 3 hours, there will again be 5 free Raid Passes. If you haven’t done a raid the day before, you can even do 6 free raids.
After Mewtwo, a really useful raid boss could follow:
