In Pokémon GO tonight, on August 14th, the Unova Week begins. It brings Shiny Genesect and new Pokémon from Gen 5. We provide the overview.
When does the event start? It starts tonight at 10:00 PM German time. It will last exactly one week and ends on August 21st at 10:00 PM German time.
It is the last week of the Hyperbonus, which you unlocked at GO Fest 2020. The event is full of new features, and you should not miss it.
This is what the Unova Week in Pokémon GO contains
These are the bonuses: The list of bonuses is long again. New Shinys and Pokémon from Gen 5 are waiting for you:
- Pokémon from the Unova region, that is the 5th generation, appear in the wild, in raids, and hatch from 7 km eggs
- You will encounter the Pokémon Strawickl, Waumboll, and Emolga for the first time
- In New York City and the surrounding area, the regional Pokémon Bisofank will appear for the first time in Pokémon GO
- Shiny Kiesling will appear for the first time in the game
- Genesect can be found in Level 5 raids and can also be encountered as Shiny for the first time there
What are these new Pokémon? In total, there are 7 new Pokémon coming to the game. Strawickl has two evolutions and Waumboll has one evolution left. Only Emolga cannot evolve further.
With Bisofank, there will be a new regional Pokémon. It resembles a bison, which is why it is exclusively located in the USA in the vicinity of New York City.
Which new Shinys are coming? In the wild, you will be able to encounter Shiny Kiesling. You will easily recognize the shiny version, as it is purple instead of blue.
However, the highlight will likely be Shiny Genesect. It is a mysterious Pokémon and can only be obtained in raids. As a Shiny, it is completely red.

Is the event worth it? For your PokéDex, the event is definitely worthwhile. You can secure at least 6 new Dex entries here in Germany.
Also, there could be quite a few Shinys that are quite rare. Shinys from Gen 5 include Nagelotz, Dusselgurr, or Lithomith.
What else is happening in August? The events in August are slowly coming to an end. In our overview of all events this month, only 4 more highlights are listed.
