This is The Cycle: At first glance, The Cycle seems like a battle royale game. The free-to-play shooter for PC features a growing storm that you need to reach the center of by the end of a match. You will also face squads of other players that you must defeat in PvP. You can die twice – after the second time you are out for good.
However, there are also PvE elements to engage with during a match. You can complete quests to fill your score tally and defeat NPCs to earn cash. At the end of a match, you’ll need to clear the landing zone of the rescue ship and you can collaborate with other players, which sounds a bit like the upcoming survival shooter Scavengers.

Season 3 Starts – Perfect for Newcomers
Here’s why you should check it out now: If you haven’t known about The Cycle yet, now would be a good time to change that. On July 8th, The Cycle started its Season 3 with Update 16 titled “Stormchasers”.
Apart from the fact that new players can secure a free bundle of cosmetics at the Season start in the Epic Games Store, the developers have a lot to offer with the new update.
For example, there is a new social hub in the form of the station where you can hang out and prepare between matches. It’s a bit reminiscent of the Tower from Destiny 2.
Additionally, there is a new Battle Pass that you can play through – with free and paid paths. If you start the game now, you’ll reach the new rewards earlier, like the new Prospector Primetime.
This is how the onboarding is made easier: With the new update, there will no longer be crafting materials that you need to collect during matches to improve your gear. Previously, there were dozens of different materials, which could quickly overwhelm newcomers.
Instead, there is now only the currency “Crypto Marks,” which you earn with each match. This is intended to simplify the progression system and give players the opportunity to set their goals for weapon improvements more precisely. The entry will thus be significantly simplified. However, the developers hinted that crafting materials could possibly return in the future for special equipment.
Every weapon has been revised with the third season, which is why you are now less likely to encounter absolute pros who will simply take you out with their favorite guns.
There will also be a new Mag Train. Two of these will run through the matches, which can be captured by players. If you control the train, it continuously gives you points – until another opponent takes the vehicle from you. This brings an exciting new gameplay element to The Cycle that you can focus on.
In addition to these features, there are plenty of balancing adjustments and bug fixes. The comprehensive patch notes (via The Cycle) show that the developers have tweaked the game at all corners to improve the gaming experience. Accordingly, it could be worth checking out the shooter today.
