Today, December 16, 2020, is an important day for Call of Duty. The new Black Ops Cold War is just getting started with Season 1, and it will be completely integrated into Warzone, which will also receive new content and changes. Here are the key points at a glance.
This is happening on December 16: Originally, it was supposed to be December 10, but the big day for Call of Duty has recently been postponed to today, December 16.
Today, 2 very important things are happening regarding the new CoD Cold War, the Battle Royale Warzone, and the 2019 predecessor Call of Duty: Modern Warfare:
- The Season 1 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is starting. It will be the first joint season with the in-house Battle Royale mode Warzone, which has essentially concluded its journey with the predecessor Modern Warfare and focuses on Cold War.
- CoD Cold War is finally fully integrated into Warzone. Due to some important changes, Warzone will connect 3 major CoD titles: itself, Modern Warfare, and Black Ops Cold War.

CoD Cold War and Warzone start in joint Season 1
Traditionally, there is fresh content for basically all areas of the game. And that is urgently needed, as many have been complaining about too little content in CoD Cold War since the launch. And Warzone has also been rather slow in terms of new content lately.
Some say that Black Ops Cold War only really starts with the launch of Season 1. But what can players expect? Here are the key points:
These new contents are coming:
- There is a new battle pass with 100 tiers
- Several new operators are coming
- There are 2 new weapons via the battle pass and 3 additional weapons throughout the season
- The Mastercraft skins are coming back
New content for traditional multiplayer:
- New multiplayer modes – including the popular 2vs2 gunfight from Modern Warfare or the fun Prop Hunt, where you can hide as an object on the map
- 2 new 6vs6 maps & Nuketown as a holiday map
- 4 maps for 2vs2 gunfight
- The new scorestreak H.A.R.P. – essentially a high-flying reconnaissance drone
The content will come through a total of 3 updates in the game. 2 for Cold War, which are now online, and an update for Warzone on the release day at 8:00 AM.
This is new for Warzone:
- The Warzone map Rebirth Island – essentially a revised version of Alcatraz from the Battle Royale mode Blackout from Black Ops 4. It is an additional map, Rebirth will not replace the existing game world around Verdansk
- Game mode “Resurgence” for Rebirth Island – There is no Gulag, but a global respawn timer. If you die, you come back when the timer runs out and your team is still alive.
- New Gulag experience (Verdansk & Rebirth Island) – The fight for respawns gets a fresh coat of paint. In Verdansk, you will fight in a large warehouse and in Rebirth Island in a small prison.
- New weapons from Cold War – Warzone will incorporate all weapons from Black Ops Cold War in one go. Specifically, this means: 30 new weapons for the Battle Royale.
- Attack helicopters as vehicles for both Warzone maps

This is coming for Zombies: Highlights in the popular co-op mode Zombies are essentially two new modes.
- “Jingle Hells” – a kind of Christmas event where the famous map “Die Maschine” brings a more festive atmosphere.
- “Cranked” – appears to be based on the same-named mode from Modern Warfare, likely increasing stress and action during zombie hunting.

Integration of Cold War into Warzone connects 3 CoD titles
Cross-game player progression: The most important global change: Almost all progression of 3 CoD games will be merged in various areas, namely from
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from 2019
- the Battle Royale Warzone from 2020
- as well as the new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which was released on November 13, 2020

Revamped level system with prestige: There will be cross-game progression between CoD Cold War, Modern Warfare, and Warzone.
The system of Black Ops Cold War will be designed similarly to that of Modern Warfare, but it will bring back the prestige system, allowing players to achieve higher ranks within a season than before.
Cold War has had this system since launch. With the start of Season 1, it will be synchronized with CoD Modern Warfare and Warzone, making it universal. Players will be able to level up across the 3 games.

Cross-game weapon progression: With the launch of Season 1, all available weapons from Cold War and Modern Warfare will also be playable in Warzone. All these firearms can be used and leveled up across the Battle Royale and in their respective games.
Weapons from the previous arsenal will not be removed – just like perks, equipment, field upgrades, and specific killstreaks from Modern Warfare. By the way, the weapons from Modern Warfare cannot be used in Cold War and vice versa.
Wide operator selection: Any operator you unlock from Modern Warfare or Cold War (purchased or earned) can be played by you in Warzone. These operators will be usable across Warzone and in their respective CoD titles.
Great freedom in leveling the battle pass: The existing battle pass system from Modern Warfare will also be retained in CoD Cold War. However, there are some fundamental changes.
The new Season 1 focuses its content on Warzone and the new Cold War. There will no longer be content specifically for Modern Warfare – at least not through the battle pass. However, contents from the new battle pass can still be unlocked through Modern Warfare and then used in Warzone or in Cold War (if available).
Progress can be achieved in the battle pass from December 16 in all 3 games – CoD MW, Black Ops Cold War, and Warzone.
