With Mortal Online 2, a new MMORPG has launched in Early Access on Steam today. It claims that players are “constantly in danger” and can lose everything. MeinMMO explains what kind of game this is and who should check it out.
What kind of game is it? Mortal Online 2 is a sandbox MMORPG with a strong focus on PvP. You can set out to explore the world, build a house, and even establish your own empire. However, all of this comes at the cost of shedding blood. And that often includes your own, especially in the first hours of gameplay.
Because whether it’s PvE enemies or other players: you are constantly at risk of dying. With death comes the loss of your entire inventory. This can be very frustrating for many MMORPG fans.
MeinMMO editor Alexander Leitsch himself tried out Mortal Online 2 during the beta and died dozens of times:
What has happened now? On November 23, Mortal Online 2 launched in Early Access (via Steam). Anyone wanting to try this hardcore MMORPG can do so now.
However, the game is Pay2Play, meaning access costs €33.99 and also requires a subscription.
Additionally, the release date is now set. The MMORPG is scheduled to officially launch on January 25, 2022.
Mortal Online 2 focuses on action battles and your creativity
What does Mortal Online 2 offer? Mortal Online 2 focuses on a first-person action system. You need to strike or block with your weapon precisely. Mouse movement determines whether the strike comes from above, below, right, or left. This is important since enemies have different weak points or blocking can be circumvented. However, this is not so easy for beginners.
In the game, there are melee and ranged combat as well as magic and even mounted combat. However, Mortal Online 2 does without classes or levels. Instead, there are numerous skills you can improve by repeated use.
At its core, the MMORPG relies on typical sandbox elements. You can therefore look forward to crafting, free trade between players, and housing. The character editor is particularly cool, where your age influences your stats, and different ancestors can be mixed together. You can spend an eternity fine-tuning the details here.
The highlight – or the absolute turn-off – is full loot PvP. So if you kill another player in the open world, you can loot their entire inventory.
Oh, and there is no map. Not even a compass like in New World or ESO. You need to like that.
Who is the game interesting for? Mortal Online 2 is aimed at players who enjoy sandbox and PvP. If you are willing to engage in a guild and have fun with theorycrafting, you should definitely check out this PvP MMORPG. Because it offers a good combat system, solid graphics, and numerous mechanics that go very deep.
However, the game is not for fans of classic MMORPGs with a hero story, linear quests, and dungeons, as these do not exist in Mortal Online 2.
The payment system, which relies on a Buy2Play model along with a subscription, is also challenging. A major hurdle that few players will likely overcome. However, from these, a close and strong community could form.
