Tom Hiddleston played one of the most popular antagonists in the MCU with Loki. As he once revealed at a panel, he has been a big fan of movie villains since he was a child and took inspiration for Loki from an iconic character.
As People.com reported, the actor talked during a panel about Loki at PaleyFest 2024 about how he prepared for the Marvel role. As he recounted, a certain character from Die Hard was a great help to him in that regard.

Who inspired Tom Hiddleston? As the actor revealed, he carefully observed how Alan Rickman portrayed the criminal genius Hans Gruber in Die Hard.
Additionally, the spy Phillip Vandamm, played by James Mason in North by Northwest (1959), also influenced his character.
“These are all characters that revolve around control and revenge,” explained Tom Hiddleston at the panel. Even as a child, he was fascinated by antagonists in films and series who had a special charisma, even though they were not the actual focus of the story:
Maybe I just loved these portrayals as a child. … I was just so drawn to these portrayals because they seemed to have so much fun playing these antagonists, I suppose. And that was part of the charm. They were so charismatic, even though they weren’t the center of these films.
