Tone is one of the newcomers in Titanfall 2. Tone belongs to the Atlas type. An excellent all-rounder for medium distances and generally a recommendation for newcomers.
Its primary weapon is a semi-automatic 40mm tracker cannon with high range and precision, as well as minimal area damage. The fire rate is average. Targeted shots knock out jumping or camping pilots in buildings, but some practice and target accuracy are required. It deals light damage to enemy Titans; hits are crucial for the offensive system!
Tone has the following abilities:
Homing Missiles: After three hits with the cannon, enemy Titans are automatically targeted for the homing missiles. Once target acquisition is active, it is indicated by a red crosshair and also announced by Tone. Fire the missiles immediately, as they inflict the most damage! However, be careful not to waste the homing missiles when the enemy is hiding behind cover or seeking protection behind a shield. It costs you three more hits with the cannon to get the next missiles!
Particle Wall: Tone has a very useful stationary particle shield, through which they and their allies can shoot while intercepting enemy fire. However, the shield disappears after a few hits and/or a short period. And as it also has a cooldown, it should always be used wisely.
Sonar Detection: Similar to the pilot’s pulse blade, Tone can fire a targeted sonar probe. This allows you to locate pilots and Titans to support your team. Additionally, Titans detected by sonar require only two hits from the cannon to be targeted for the tracker missiles. So don’t hold back on the sonar and use it frequently!
Salvo System: Rocket lovers will be thrilled, because when you unleash your core, Tone ruthlessly fires numerous homing missiles for immense damage. You only need to aim at the target (again, the targeting system lights up red) and the salvos handle the rest. Pure destruction!
Which kits are recommended for Tone?
KingK thinks: For the general kit, Overcore is recommended. I love having the salvo system readily available because the missiles deal immense damage and can make a fresh Titan doomed and finish off already damaged Titans.
Choosing the Tone kit is more difficult. I favor Rocket Barrage for two additional homing missiles, as they deal the most damage, and it is difficult for enemies to escape the homing missiles. More missiles mean faster Titan kills.
The alternative is an enhanced particle wall with longer uptime and higher damage resistance. Also useful, especially when confronting two Titans. However, since the shield is stationary and you may need to quickly change positions depending on the situation, the longer uptime is not necessarily required.
Titanfall 2 Guide Tone: How to play the popular all-rounder?
Tone offers a perfect balance of offense and defense, without necessarily having to leave your position. However, I advise using her mobility and dash to evade tight situations and to pursue fleeing Titans. She is not made for close combat, so watch out for Ronins and be cautious around a Scorch!
Put your enemies to the test by alternating between cannon shots and homing missiles. Keep them at a distance and let them run into your salvo system, especially if they want to force you into close combat. With Tone, you can beautifully flank other Titans already engaged in combat with your teammates. Use the range of your cannon and missiles to your advantage from a distance.
It’s advisable to use the particle wall to reload your primary weapon, place it against several Titans, or when the enemy uses their core ability against you and you cannot escape in time. On tight maps, like Complex, the wall shines, especially when the enemy has no cover and cannot escape. In such situations, one can deal massive damage and feed the salvo system.
Against Ronins, the wall is ineffective, as they will simply zip through it or get to you via Phase Shift instead of shooting at you with their shotgun. Use the time instead to create distance.
