In Titanfall 2, the Day One patch is significantly smaller than what one would expect from other AAA titles nowadays.
“In the past,” you would buy a game, sprint home, excitedly insert it into the console or PC, and start playing right away. Nowadays, you insert the disc and first look for another activity: Because especially with large AAA games, it is common for a Day One patch to be downloaded first, which is usually several GB in size. Depending on internet speed, it can take hours before you can finally start playing online.
With Titanfall 2, this is pleasantly different: There is indeed a patch available for this shooter at release, but compared to other Day One patches, it is tiny.
The co-founder of developer Respawn, Vince Zampella, announced via Twitter that the patch size is only 88 MB. Most gamers download that in just a few seconds today.
Titanfall 2 releases on October 28 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Now it remains to be seen whether 88 MB is sufficient for the game to run smoothly at launch. “Buggy” triple-A releases have happened often enough in the past.
