The Palworld community has discovered on Reddit that Pals have different weaknesses and resistances to various elements. It was also found that attacks of a certain element can grant an attack bonus depending on their application.
In a thread on Reddit, the Palworld community found that Pals have different weaknesses against other elements. It was also noted that there is even resistance present, and depending on which attacks you use, you can even receive an attack bonus.
What elements are there? In Palworld, there are a total of nine elements, each Pal has at least one. These elements are Neutral, Water, Grass, Fire, Electric, Ice, Earth, Shadow, and Dragon. In most cases, a Pal belongs to a specific element, but there are also some that belong to multiple elements, like Chillet, which belongs to both the Ice and Dragon elements.
In contrast to passive skills, every Pal always has a fixed element, which means that Chillet cannot belong to the Fire element. However, there are some Pals that can exist in different forms with various elements: Kelpsea is assigned to the Water element, while Kelsea Ignis belongs to the Fire element.
What resistances do the elements have? Generally speaking, it can be said that Pals are resistant to damage from elements they are strong against. So if you attack a Pal and your damage numbers are not red, then the attacked Pal is resistant to your element.
In the following table, we show you all the resistance relationships of the various elements:
| Element | Resistance against |
|---|---|
| Neutral | has no resistance |
| Water | Fire |
| Grass | Earth |
| Fire | Grass |
| Electric | Water |
| Ice | Dragon |
| Earth | Electric |
| Shadow | Neutral |
| Dragon | Shadow |
Every element has a weakness
What weaknesses do the elements have? Unlike the resistance relationships, each element has a weakness against another element without exception. This means that attacks from this element deal or inflict more damage.
In the following table, you will find all the weaknesses of the individual elements:
| Element | Weakness against |
|---|---|
| Neutral | Shadow |
| Water | Electric |
| Grass | Fire |
| Fire | Water |
| Electric | Earth |
| Ice | Fire |
| Earth | Grass |
| Shadow | Dragon |
| Dragon | Ice |
What if a Pal belongs to more than one element? Pals with dual elements follow the same rules for both of their elements. However, this can also be advantageous and compensate for a weakness. For example, a Penking (Ice and Water) takes normal damage from a Fire attack, which is displayed using white numbers.
What happens if you use an attack from the same element as your Pal? If you use an attack from the same element, you receive an attack bonus. An attack bonus from the same element grants a small damage bonus if your Pal has the same type as the attack.
A Fire Pal deals more damage with a Fire attack than a Pal of another type executing the same attack. The community has calculated that this bonus is about 20%.
In Palworld, you can not only catch Pals that support you with their elements in battle but also humans. You can read about the advantages this brings here:
