With Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, the Borderlands series ventures into the fantasy world. Today, further information about the upcoming fantasy looter shooter has been revealed.
What kind of game is this? Wonderlands places the Borderlands series right in the colorful, crazy world of a tabletop RPG. Here, you are completely exposed to the crazy ideas of the game master Tiny Tina – but by no means helpless.
Just like in Borderlands 3, you can rely on crazy weapons and effective skills that will help you fight against skeletons, monsters, dragons, and other creatures. Additionally, there is a magical arsenal of spells that you can unleash on your enemies, as well as various weapons.
And especially the last two elements can be seen in action in the new trailer. Here, the new classes “Spellshot” and “Clawbringer” are introduced.
What can Spellshot and Clawbringer do?
The Spellshots create a kind of bridge between the classic Borderlands weapons and more fantastical abilities. While the class also relies on rifles, they can simultaneously attack their enemies with two equipped spells. The trailer also shows how Spellshot turns an enemy troll into a harmless, sheep-like creature. Useful!
The second class in the trailer is called “Clawbringer”. This class comes with a monstrous hammer that is perfect for severe melee attacks. Additionally, the thing can be thrown and recalled – reminiscent of Thor from the Avengers or Kratos from the latest God of War. Clawbringers also have a little dragon companion.
However, you can decide how exactly the classes look and function in the character editor that Wonderlands includes.
Otherwise, the trailer shows further expansions of the fantastic world of Wonderlands. We see enemies like the “Shrooms”, a type of deadly killer mushroom that attacks with spores. Additionally, goblins and trolls are fantasy-typical companions.
Loot, combat, and bickering companions in Wonderlands
These are your companions: In addition to the trailer, further information about Wonderlands has been revealed. This includes two of your players at the Wonderlands table: Valentine and Frette.
The two NPCs are supposed to act like “little angel and little devil” and offer you varying degrees of helpful comments on your journey. However, they are likely rarely in agreement.
You can always make decisions yourself: “Frette and Valentine might have ideas, they might sometimes provide suggestions, they could even approve or disapprove of what you do. We wanted to use them as sources of humor to address the different dynamics between players and between players and the game master, and in general try to provide players with as many comments as possible,” says lead writer Sam Winkler in the current DevDiary about this (via playwonderlands.com).
The two can also be seen in the already known story trailer for Wonderlands.
Weapons and more: Furthermore, various gameplay elements have also been discussed. Much of it was already known: Among other things, you will again have access to a bazillion weapons of various rarities, as is customary in Borderlands. Additionally, there are again shields and wearable upgrades like rings and amulets.
Also known: the coop aspect. Up to four players can battle through the Wonderlands online or in split-screen. The more players there are, the harder the game will be.
Additionally, Wonderlands also relies on various elemental damage, just like Borderlands. These are the elements:
- Fire
- Frost
- Lightning
- Poison
- Dark Magic
Depending on the nature of your opponent, different elements will be effective. What you need will be discernible through the health bars.
