Through Pokémon GO, many trainers have the desire to explore as many regions of the world as possible and catch the little pocket monsters there. A TikToker is now playing the mobile game as one of the first in Antarctica. We at MeinMMO show you the reactions of the community.
Which trainer is it about? Popular Pokémon can be found virtually everywhere in the world. Some of them are even exclusively regionally available, which gives many players additional incentive to travel the world. The TikToker and Pokémon GO trainer Matty Jordan is not focused on regional Pokémon, but is currently experiencing a very special and unique journey.
He is working for the New Zealand Antarctic program as a project manager and currently lives in Scott Base, a research station in Antarctica. From there, he shares videos and pictures with his followers daily through social networks, giving them insights into his stay.
But what about Pokémon and stops there? Matty Jordan has also looked into these questions. We show you his video on this and the reactions of the community.
Pokémon & PokéStops in Antarctica
The Antarctic is one of the few places in the world that cannot be easily traveled, which is why it is interesting for many of Matty’s followers to see what it might look like there. Especially the Pokémon GO community is particularly excited because Matty is among the first trainers to play there and did not just spoof his way there. For this reason, he has to answer numerous questions in the comments.
Which Pokémon can be found in Antarctica? One of the most important questions for many trainers is which Pokémon can actually be found in Antarctica. The TikToker naturally investigated this in one of his posts and had to realize with disappointment – none special.
Anyone who, like Matty himself, was expecting typical ice Pokémon due to the many ice masses was probably bitterly disappointed, because as his video shows, typical monsters can be found there that are also available elsewhere. At the time of recording, only Pokémon like Unratütox or Wiesor were spawning in his vicinity.
He writes (via tiktok.com): “I could be the first person in the world to play Pokémon GO in Antarctica. I know that other people have teleported here to catch Pokémon, but there is a possibility that I am the first person to actually do it from here.
The spawns seem to be quite similar to what I could find in New Zealand. I expected a few cool ice-type Pokémon, but I haven’t found any yet.”
PokéStops in Antarctica: Matty is particularly pleased about the existing PokéStop, which can also be seen in the video. In the post, he writes (tiktok.com): “Cool that we also have a PokéStop here so that I can replenish my supplies.” However, it is clear that Matty is probably not the first Niantic player in Antarctica. After all, the stop must have been requested at some point.
Whether there are also gyms and where they might be, Matty doesn’t want to reveal in the comments just yet and wants to save it for a later video. However, this doesn’t stop the community from giving Matty advice.
One or the other therefore suggests that he should cover Antarctica with numerous PokéStops and gyms. User Steve writes (tiktok.com): “Make gyms everywhere. And PokéStops.”
However, TikTok user Kailey has concerns and explains (tiktok.com): “A gym there would be a nightmare! Pokémon stuck forever!” But since Matty is only trainer level 22 and needs to be trainer level 38 to request such stops, the implementation will still take a while.
How you can submit PokéStops and what you should consider, an expert has revealed to us:
Trainers are excited: “You have created a new dream for me”
With the images from the AR mode, Matty definitely makes the hearts of the Pokémon GO community beat faster. While some now dream of traveling to Antarctica themselves, others want special postcards or even Pokémon from this place and send him their trainer codes. You can find the following comments (via tiktok.com):
- MegaLuigi: “You have created a new dream for me”
- Shadowling: “I want postcards from the ice!!!”
- zombiemiki: “Are you accepting friend requests? 😁 Because if so, let’s be friends!”
- moth: “PLEASE can we be friends? I’m planning to hatch a Pokémon from every country, and you might be my only hope for a gift from Antarctica”
But as much as Matty appreciates the enthusiastic responses in the comments, he keeps his followers waiting a bit regarding friend requests. He has one condition (via tiktok.com): “If I reach 100k views with this video, I will post my friendship code.” When that will be is yet to be seen.
How did you imagine playing in Antarctica? Would you have expected ice Pokémon as well? Is it also your dream to travel there one day? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments here on MeinMMO and exchange ideas with other trainers.
