Thunderbolts is the next Marvel movie and the first voices praise: The MCU is back

Many Marvel fans wish for the old MCU to return. The current movies have not convinced many viewers so far. Even the latest Captain America did not sit well with everyone. However, the newest Marvel movie seems to finally be going in a better direction, at least if you want to believe early reviews.

Which movie is it about? Even before the release of Captain America: Brave New World, many Marvel fans were disillusioned, and even after that, the movie did not sit well with everyone. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a mediocre score of 48% from 335 reviews. Fans are a bit more lenient. With over 10,000 reviews, the user score is 78%.

Marvel fans do not have to wait long for new content, as Thunderbolts* will be released on May 1, 2025. The team of anti-heroes is reminiscent of DC’s Suicide Squad and brings back popular characters like Bucky or the Red Guardian. In the film, the mismatched heroes must face the powerful villain Sentry.

Although the official reviews have not yet been released, the first impressions seem to be quite positive. Especially one actress is being praised for her performance.

First impressions are enthusiastic, praising Florence Pugh and the new approach

What are the first reactions? As is typical for Marvel, no real reviews have been published yet, as they usually come 1 to 2 days before the release. But early fans have seen the film and praise it quite enthusiastically. Not only are they impressed by Florence Pugh’s performance, but the fresh approach is also mentioned.

@BigGoldBelt (via x.com) writes that the movie is raw, hilarious, and deeply human. The film addresses trauma and redemption, especially because it is about losers who can still become heroes.

@NextBestPicture (via x.com) finds it good that the film is different in many aspects from other Marvel movies because it is the perfect time to bring fresh ideas into the MCU. The film is dark and emotional, and especially Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova) carries the film on her shoulders. He states that it is not the funniest or best Marvel film, but it fits perfectly with the team of anti-heroes.

Also @WongUpdates (via x.com) praises Florence Pugh’s performance. He goes even further and finds her performance Oscar-worthy. The MCU is finally back and better than ever!

How credible are these voices? One can assume that the first reactions come from fans of the MCU, making the general attitude more positive. However, in recent years much criticism has come from fans, which is why such reactions can be a good sign at first.

The praise for Florence Pugh also seems credible. She is one of the best modern actresses, having already shown how well she can act in Midsommar, Little Women, and most recently in We Live in Time.
