In Throne and Liberty, there is the boss Kowazan and Lycan Kowazan, as his form changes depending on the time of day. We have the best strategies for both cases to checkmate this strong opponent.
Where can you find Kowazan and what can he do? Kowazan is a fascinating boss as he has both a daytime and nighttime version. The nighttime version, also called “Lycan Kowazan,” differs not only visually but also in loot and attack patterns.
Both bosses rely heavily on AoE attacks, meaning area damage. While the normal Kowazan can poison you, the “Lycan Kowazan” surprises you with tricky moon puzzles.
Kowazan is a level 50 field boss and is located north of the waypoint “Graukrallen Wald” near the “Canina Village.” Depending on the time of day, you will encounter one of his two forms; you can read the time in the bottom right corner of the world map. Alternatively, it is also possible to challenge him starting from Guild Level 17 in the Guild Hall, which you can find in “Vienta.” We will tell you how to fight against both forms of the boss.

Kowazan by Day: Human Form
You can obtain the following loot from Kowazan’s normal form by day:
- “Kowazan’s Twilight Daggers”
- “Shock Commander Greaves”

- “Dead Reckoning Greatsword”
- “Crossbows of Undead Piercing”
Kowazan has a chance for some epic armor pieces during the day. Additionally, you will receive a small chest with useful items as a guaranteed drop. Now let’s talk about his mechanics so you can defeat him and get the coveted items.
Basic Attack
This boss uses melee and ranged basic attacks. If a ranged attacker holds aggro, Kowazan will also use ranged attacks and charge at his target. This should be avoided. Ideally, you have a tank with you who maintains aggro for you.
Poison Knives and Rage Attack
Kowazan is quite unpredictable and often suddenly throws his AoE poison knives in a large radius twice in a row. If you are in his range, it is impossible to resist it. Therefore, you should rely on your healers in the team, who need to replenish your health bar. Or you support your teammates and occasionally use some potions.
Immediately after the poison knives, he will perform his rage attack, which you need to block now. For a perfect block, wait until the large purple circle gets smaller and touches the inner purple circle, then press the button to block. If you manage the perfect block, you can even attack with an extra ability on the same button afterwards.
Green Light Pillar
After he says, “Are you the leader?” Kowazan will make a player glow in a green pillar and then immediately throw some poisonous knives in a 180-degree AoE cone at them. This area attack immediately poisons all nearby players hit, so the healers must work hard again.
Make sure to get away from the glowing green person as quickly as possible to avoid the attack and support your healers.
Green Smoke
When Kowazan says, “Dirt … Good-for-nothing …! I will finish you all in no time!” he draws green smoke towards him. Now it gets particularly tricky. If you fail this mechanic, it’s the end for you.
After he has sucked in the smoke, he expels a green wave, and all players are put into a panic and automatically run away from the boss. Most players cannot move afterwards, except for a few who are surrounded by a green pillar and have a sword as a marker above their heads.
This is a debuff that needs to be distributed. The marked individuals should quickly run to other players to touch them. This way, the debuff will be shared. If they do not do this, those who are marked and have not passed on the debuff will be lifted into the air and finished off.
Lycan Kowazan by Night: Werewolf Form
You can obtain the following loot from Kowazan’s alternate form at night:

Rage Attack
Lycan Kowazan also has a rage attack that you can simply block. For a perfect block, wait until the large purple circle gets smaller and touches the inner purple circle, then press the button to block. If you achieve the perfect block, you can subsequently even attack with an extra ability on the same button.
Blue Moon, Yellow Moon
When Lycan Kowazan pushes you back with a large area attack, six random players will be marked with a blue crescent moon above their heads. You need to quickly run to your team members who also have a crescent moon above their heads to connect with them. Then, a yellow full moon will appear.
Also, watch the floor of the arena because when two players connect and create a full moon from their crescent moons, a yellow circle will randomly appear under one of the pairs. This is a buff that increases your damage, so try to run into it.
Red Moon
If Kowazan sucks in all players in the arena, six to seven of them will be randomly marked with a red moon. Additionally, several other players will be marked with a red light. Those with the red moon over their heads must run to the boss to touch him.
And the lives of the other marked players depend on this. If you arrive late at the boss, he will start to randomly eliminate players marked with red light.
