In Throne and Liberty, a new weapon will be released in December. It is supposed to finally close the gap between melee and ranged combat.
What kind of weapon is it? In a video on YouTube, the developers of Throne and Liberty presented their new weapon. It is a new spear, which is set to be introduced into the game on December 5 with the patch.
The weapons in Throne and Liberty replace the classes from other MMORPGs. Depending on the combination played, the playstyle changes and you can become a melee fighter, ranged fighter, healer, or tank.

The spear is supposed to close the gap
How is the spear supposed to close the gap between melee and ranged combat? The spear will offer many abilities that also work over greater distances. For fighting against monsters, this means that many AOE abilities will add burn damage to the monsters.
For PvP, the spear offers several stuns as well as abilities that can hit targets behind the attacked player. This way, a player with a spear can duel in melee while still dealing damage to the ranged fighters in the back line.
Since the weapon can be combined with all other melee weapons, the developers claim it will make melee fighters stronger in PvP. Furthermore, the developers state that ranged fighters are currently dealing damage very well over distances. The spear is meant to address this issue.
The spear bearers stack debuffs on a target. When these negative effects reach a maximum, their primary attack ability receives some special effects. If the debuff expires beforehand, it explodes and deals damage to the player and everyone around.
Some of the abilities can be equipped with fire elements through the right specializations, which apply additional debuffs.

What role is the spearfighter supposed to take on? The spearfighter is meant to serve either as a nuker or as a bruiser. He has a buff that allows him to resist movement-restricting abilities. With his own abilities, he can restrict multiple targets at once.
Through the debuffs that the spearfighter applies to his opponents, he can inflict damage over time to many opponents at once.
What role the spearfighter ultimately takes on depends on the second weapon that the player chooses. The usual other weapons are available for selection. This way, the spear can be played in various ways.
What else is supposed to come with the update? Not only the new weapon is set to appear with the update in December, but also additional features. These have only been announced so far; more information about them is still pending. On December 5, 2024, the following features are expected to be added:
- New weapon spear
- The new rune system
- Wargames
- Dimensional trials
- Expanded lifestyle content
- Further general game improvements
In December, there is also expected to be a new event to fit the Christmas season. However, it is still unclear whether this event will already appear in this update. In the last seasonal event for Halloween, players had to run the same dungeon 25 times in one week: In Throne and Liberty, players must run a dungeon for hours, as a noise drives them to madness.
