In World of Warcraft Classic, you should be careful about your positioning on PvP realms. The wrong spot can lead to account penalties!
In the “good old days” of World of Warcraft Classic, there were many rules and habits that are hardly imaginable today (or in Retail). After all, there were no flying mounts back then and many game mechanics worked differently. For this reason, you also need to be careful where your character stands in Classic. Otherwise, you might be considered a nasty exploiter.
What exactly is going on? In the WoW Classic subreddit, user KazmaticsTV shared a screenshot of a dialog with a Game Master. The conversation was about the player standing on the roofs of buildings and turning passing players from the other faction into sheep just to tease them a little. This was a PvP action, but spawning NPC guards could not catch him on the roof.

KazmaticsTV was subsequently warned by the GM that this would be considered an exploit and advised the player to refrain from doing it. He said:
We want you to have fun in PvP, but if you are standing on buildings and so on to avoid guards, then that counts as an environment exploit.
Recently, exploiters were heavily punished for exploiting layering.
What does that mean? In plain terms, this now means that you cannot stand on roofs or elevations in PvP that you had to reach through “wall-jumping” or other tricks. Any place where guards spawn but cannot reach you will be considered an exploit and could potentially be used against you and your account.
So, if you want to avoid penalties, you should always ensure that you only use “fair” positions in PvP where there are either no guards nearby or guards at least have the opportunity to strike.
The rule is, by the way, not new. Even back in Vanilla, this decision existed and anyone who hid on roofs, making themselves invulnerable to many, could expect penalties if reported by other players.
What do you think about this rule? Is it sensible and important to create fairness? Or does exploiting such places add to the charm of Classic?
