Call of Duty: Mobile is getting a new season called “Going Dark.” If you have played Modern Warfare, this should ring a bell. And indeed, the mobile CoD is getting content from the (still) latest installment.
This is Season 12: The new season of Call of Duty: Mobile seems to be a tribute to Modern Warfare (2019). This is indicated by both the name and the content included in the update.
“Going Dark” is already a reference to the popular Modern Warfare by its name. In the teaser for the season, the developers also showcased two legendary characters from the game: Captain Price and Ghost. Captain Price joined Modern Warfare in Season 4.
Both are likely to appear as playable characters with these shown skins in CoD Mobile. The season will also feature:
- Hackney Yard as a new map
- a new operator skill, the Ballistic Shield
- the “Refitter” as a new class for Battle Royale
- a possible night mode
Additionally, two new weapons have been announced, although it is still unclear which they will be. After the first mythic weapon was not well received, players are now hoping for something fairer.
The new season is expected to release “this week,” by November 15 at the latest.
Features for MW players: Hackney Yard and the night mode
This is the new map: Hackney Yard was already one of the more popular maps in Modern Warfare. It consists of many angles, houses, and containers where intense battles take place.
It is small enough to ensure a lot of action and also so convoluted that you can easily play tactically. Especially since CoD Mobile plays faster than Modern Warfare, aggressive players will likely enjoy themselves here. While Hackney Yard may not be a Shipment, it will still lead to many kills.
If you are new, you can find the best weapons for CoD Mobile on MeinMMO that suit your playstyle. Tip: The QQ9 could be really strong on Hackney Yard.
What is the night mode? The night mode immerses familiar maps in complete darkness. You then play with night vision devices, which means you can see lasers from weapons better and that colors are mostly gone. This creates a more intense, albeit more complex game.
However, it is still uncertain whether the mode will even be implemented. The current speculation is due to Captain Price wearing his famous night vision device in the trailer, the season’s name “Going Dark,” and Modern Warfare also promoting this mode in their trailer.
Moreover, the official CoD Mobile Twitter account links to a video that is supposed to show Hackney Yard at night. However, this is currently still “private” and not viewable.
More features in Season 12: New skill and new class
What is the new skill? The Ballistic Shield is a new operator ability that you can equip in your loadout. It is a frontal body protection with an integrated submachine gun.
You hold the shield in front of you, protecting yourself from bullets that would hit you head-on. At the same time, you can fire at enemies in front of you with a submachine gun, but without aiming down sights (“ADS”). The short clip from the developers shows what that looks like:
This is the new class: The Refitter is a new class in CoD Mobile’s Battle Royale that ensures armor and vehicles are automatically repaired. It also increases the durability of these two items.
As a gadget, the Refitter gets an armor package that you can place on the ground. Players can use it and receive less damage from bullets.
CoD expert Maik Schneider took a closer look at the Battle Royale for MeinMMO. His opinion is: The Battle Royale of CoD Mobile plays like the predecessor of Warzone.
