The horror survival game Sons of the Forest is currently on more wishlists on Steam than any other game. It will be released in Early Access on February 23. MeinMMO explains why so many are looking forward to this game.
What kind of game is this? The Forest was released in 2014, one of the best survival games for PC. With 95% positive ratings, it is even among the best games on the platform (via Steam).
With Sons of the Forest, the long-awaited sequel to the horror game finally comes. You apparently play as a descendant of the protagonist from the first game, who crashes on an island in search of a missing billionaire.
The island is populated with mutants and cannibals that hunt you down. You now try to survive. To do this, you set up a base, search for weapons, and explore the island to find out what is really going on there.
Currently, Sons of the Forest is the most wished game on Steam. It has even overtaken the highly anticipated Starfield.
When will Sons of the Forest be released? Sons of the Forest will be released in Early Access on February 23, 2023. Originally, it was planned to release the game directly, but the developers have postponed the release.
It is not yet certain how long Sons of the Forest will remain in Early Access. The Forest was also released for PS4 years later, but Sons of the Forest will initially only be available for PC.

What makes Sons of the Forest special? One of the most praised aspects of the first game was its story. Unlike most survival games, The Forest is not a sandbox but a story-driven game.
Depending on the choices you make, you can even unlock different endings to the story. Fans expect the same from the sequel. However, we can’t say how many endings and contents will be included in Early Access yet.
Other already known features include:
- a building and crafting system that allows you to build your own base
- seasons that can affect how enemies behave
- advanced AI that changes enemy behavior depending on your reactions
- co-op for up to 8 players in one lobby
- NPC companions who assist you and have their own personality
