It has been a long time since the last appearance of the Avengers in the MCU. The last movie was released almost 6 years ago. The Russo brothers will direct the latest installment, just like in the past. However, they initially did not want to do that.
Which movie is it about? In 2019, Avengers: Endgame was the last film (for now) from Marvel’s beloved hero team. In the meantime, 13 films and countless series have been released, but fans had to wait a long time for a new appearance of the Avengers. Next year it will finally happen, and with Avengers: Doomsday, a new movie that brings many heroes together will be released.
The special thing about the film is the new villain, Dr. Doom, who is not only quite menacing but is played by Robert Downey Jr. The Russo brothers are also back and will direct once again after Infinity War and Endgame.
However, they originally did not want to return, as they revealed in a recent interview.

What did the Russo brothers say about the upcoming Avengers film? In an interview with omeleteve (via YouTube), the directors talked about Avengers: Doomsday. They did not reveal any story details about the film, but discussed how they came to return.
They were asked who had the idea to not only bring Robert Downey Jr. back but also to cast him as the main villain. The brothers said: It was not their idea at all, but rather that of Marvel boss Kevin Feige. They originally did not want to make the film either. Even after Robert Downey Jr. tried to convince them, they declined: We were resistant for a while
In the end, it was the persuasive power of Steve McFeely, the writer of Avengers: Endgame. He had the idea for the new movie, and the Russo brothers were convinced:
And then one day, Steve McFeely, who is one of our most important collaborators, said: “I have an idea.” And he called us […] and we said: “This is the story. This story needs to be told. It’s a really strong story.”

Especially the villain of the upcoming film seems to have convinced them. They cannot tell any details, but they explained that they love villains who think they are the heroes of the story. Then they become three-dimensional, and they become more interesting.
This focus on the villain also fits with the previous Marvel films of the Russo brothers. With Thanos and Baron Zemo, they brought two of the best villains of the MCU to the big screen.
