A previously promised and advertised feature that Battlefield 5 was supposed to have at launch has been postponed and now completely discarded. Fans will have to forgo this.
This is the feature in question: As DICE has casually mentioned in the FAQ for the recently launched Chapter 3: Fire Trial, the so-called “Soldier-Dragging Feature” has been abandoned.
This feature was supposed to allow players to drag injured teammates or other allied soldiers out of the line of fire and then provide them with aid in a safe location.
Why is this feature being cut? The developers stated that during development, they found that this feature would negatively impact the core gameplay of Battlefield 5.
For dragging wounded players to look good and play well, long and complex animations are required. This would make reviving very sluggish, which would in turn affect the flow of the game.
Therefore, they decided to completely scrap this feature.
What was the promise about? The Soldier-Dragging feature was one of the most interesting new features for some fans when Battlefield 5 was announced and was supposed to be included at launch.
However, before the release, it became known that this mechanic probably wouldn’t make it into the game on time – like several other planned features. The developers stated that the dragging mechanic was still in development but would definitely be introduced at a later date.
Now it seems DICE has made a different decision.
Other features are also delayed: The Soldier-Dragging is by no means the only feature that didn’t make it to the launch of the title on time. For example, the Battle Royale mode Firestorm was only added a few days ago. Players are still waiting for some promised cosmetics.
Therefore, many fans have repeatedly criticized that Battlefield 5 was released in an unfinished state and that more time should have been taken.
