Yesterday afternoon, Sony sent out email invitations to PSN users with the chance to buy a PS5 console today. There is also an opportunity for those who did not receive an invitation.
The PS5 drop through Sony’s direct sales PlayStation Direct is set to start today, March 17, 2022, at 10:30 AM. There are a few important things to note:
- You can only participate if you received an email invitation from Sony yesterday afternoon. The address used is the one linked to your PSN account.
- To complete the purchase, you must have a credit card. Only Visa and Mastercard are accepted. So keep the required information handy or store it in your account beforehand.
- Even if you received an invitation, there is no guarantee of getting a PS5. Just like with retailers, the rule here is “first come, first served”. It’s best to be on time, as the allocations are quickly sold out.
Sony has previously opened direct PS5 sales for everyone after some time
What if you didn’t receive an official invitation? In the last sales event from PlayStation Direct, there was a “public sale” afterwards. This means everyone gets the chance to buy a PS5 console. To prevent overwhelming the systems, a queue will be implemented. Once it’s your turn, you will receive an acoustic signal and can then place your order.
