The space survival MMO Hellion is facing removal from Steam. However, you now have the opportunity to grab it for free before it disappears from Valve’s platform.
What is Hellion? The survival MMO Hellion places you in the role of a colonist arriving at the Hellion colony, only to find that something went wrong with the colonization of the star system. You must try to survive in space on a graveyard of spaceships and space stations, build a refuge, and scavenge the shipwrecks for useful resources. You constantly risk running out of oxygen. You will also encounter other survivors, who may not always be friendly.
The success simply did not materialize
How has the game performed so far? Hellion had 1,923 concurrent players at launch in February 2017 according to Steamcharts. However, it has been steadily declining since then. The peak in the past 30 days was only 40 concurrent players.
What about the reviews? The overall rating of the survival MMO Hellion is 54% on Steam. In the past 30 days, this has dropped to only 35%.
The game is considered quite buggy and lacks depth. It feels unfinished, even after it left Early Access in October 2019. Nevertheless, many enjoy searching for resources in the weightlessness of space, always keeping an eye on their oxygen supply, expanding their station, and fighting against other players. The scenario is unusual and exciting. Essentially, it’s a good survival MMO that lacks polish.
The current negative ratings stem from the developers announcing the game’s discontinuation. It will not be further developed, which has upset fans.

When will the game be removed from Steam? Starting March 30 at 6:00 PM, Hellion will no longer be available on Steam.

Will it still be playable after removal? The developers plan to keep the servers open. For how long, it has not been specified. Additionally, it will still be possible to play the game offline.
Is it still fun with few players or alone? The player count for Hellion is low, so it can no longer really be considered an MMO. However, that doesn’t matter. The gameplay of wanting to survive alone in space and constantly searching for more air is very exciting even when playing solo.
If a few players do show up, it’s even more enjoyable. However, a large number of players is not necessary to have fun with Hellion.
