Although The Division does not have classic raids, the incursions provide a similar endgame variant. For these reasons, the incursions are an important part of the game.
The incursions, or Incursions, from The Division are not classic raids, as known from Destiny or World of Warcraft. They can be considered more like streamlined short raids. They are part of the endgame and especially designed for group play. Although they are not “real” raids, they still play an important role.

Incursions – the raids of The Division
What exactly are Incursions? The incursions are larger-scale missions that differ significantly from one another.
Each incursion has a different mission objective and a major enemy that must be defeated. The difficulty level highly depends on the group and the players’ gear.
Advantage of teamwork: With a fixed team using voice chat, coordination becomes significantly easier. This way, you can approach the incursions in the best possible ways and strategically pursue objectives.
If you have the appropriate gear, you can define specific roles. Healers, damage dealers, tanks, and snipers. Because when you assign fixed tasks and adapt to the mission, it makes things much more pleasant and fun.

How the Incursions work
How many incursions are there? There are a total of four different incursions, some of which belong to specific DLCs.
- Falcon Lost: This incursion was the first to make its way into the game and is free for everyone. The goal is to destroy an enemy armored vehicle. To do this, one must endure 15 waves and deploy 4 explosives.
- Clear Sky: In this incursion, you must take out an enemy air defense. First, you make your way to a large plaza and must activate two generators there. Throughout this, you will be targeted by the large turret and attacked by waves of enemies.
- Dragon’s Nest: In Dragon’s Nest, you face the four apocalyptic Cleaners and a fire truck equipped with a flamethrower. First, you must take out the four Cleaner bosses, fight your way to the fire truck, and then blow it up.
- Stolen Signal: In the most extensive incursion, you must storm a TV and radio station to rescue hostages. For this, you need to fight your way through three building wings and complete various tasks.
The incursions differ in their difficulty levels and rewards. They can last from a few minutes to one or several hours, depending on what kind of team you have.

What are the incursions for?
Why they are important: Incursions are a great way to collect rewards. Especially when you’re fresh in the endgame, you’ll find a load of useful equipment there.
They are firstly a PvE activity that can be played repeatedly. Secondly, they help players internalize the mechanics of The Division. What playstyle and what gear are best suited for which task?
This way, there are individual gear sets that are particularly useful for specific incursions. For example, if you have the gear set “Final Measure” in Falcon Lost or Clear Sky, you can absorb enemy mortar shots. Or if you need protection from flames in Dragon’s Nest, the Recovery Set is especially suitable, as it can make you immune to status effects.

Incursions have motivated many players to challenge themselves and experiment. Some complete the incursions solo. Others aim to finish Incursions as quickly as possible.
Surely, the incursions are improvable, not every player is satisfied with them. Nevertheless, the endgame of The Division would noticeably lose variety without them.
For The Division 2, developer Massive has already confirmed that they are working on “real raids” for up to 8 players. However, these will likely not be available at launch.
