Call of Duty: Modern Warfare offers many different playstyles. Some prefer to play slowly and carefully, while others prefer fast and furious. For the adrenaline junkies among you, we present our ultimate “Run&Gun” build.
What is “Run&Gun”? “Run&Gun” means that you dash wildly across the map, hunting down and eliminating enemies. This makes you more or less the exact opposite of the sometimes similarly dangerously campy campers.
“Run&Gun” builds on the idea that you are faster than the opponent and can surprise multiple enemies, allowing you to secure multi-kills with good reaction. The YouTuber Mr. Fruit demonstrates the style in action:
Important in this style is that you are as mobile as possible, can aim quickly, and eliminate enemies effectively. Submachine guns are particularly useful for this style, but some shotguns and assault rifles can also work well.
The ultimate “Run&Gun” experience
What build should I use? From our experience, one weapon is particularly suitable for the “Run&Gun” style: the MP7. It offers an enormous fire rate, is quite accurate, and you move quickly.
For your secondary, we recommend a .357 revolver. By itself, it is already powerful, but when modified to a shotgun, it becomes a real monster. The gear is freely selectable, but Semtex and stun grenades are particularly useful. We recommend the following perks:
- Blue: Sprint or Fixer (or Plunderer, more on that later)
- Red: Ghost or Hardliner
- Yellow: Scout or Eager
The different killstreaks are freely selectable. However, you must definitely take “Dead Silence” as your field upgrade. If you also activate “Pro,” you can pack and choose a second upgrade. Here, the ammunition crate is recommended to avoid having to rely on “Plunderer”.
Tip: If you take throwing knives as equipment, your melee attacks will be instantly lethal, since you stab with the knife. Thrown, the weapon is an insta-kill and can be picked up again. However, handling it can be a bit tricky.
The ultimate weapon
What attachments does the MP7 need? If you want to build the ultimate weapon for “Run&Gun,” you first have to unlock several attachments for gunsmithing. The MP7 is best equipped as follows:
- Barrel: FFS SWAT or Muzzle: Muzzle Brake
- Laser: 1mW Laser or Extra: Dexterity
- Stock: No Stock
- Grip: Textured Grip Tape
With this setup, you already have a really strong MP7 to dash around and mix it up with enemies. You can fill the last free slot with a 60-round magazine or a Ranger Foregrip.
Generally, the attachments are quite freely selectable. The only truly important ones are the stock (the “No Stock” option, not just no attachment) and the grip. These two attachments alone support the style tremendously.
How do I play the weapon? With our setup, you should be able to effectively eliminate enemies at short to medium range. The time to aim (“ADS speed”) is relatively low and you should be able to aim faster than most opponents.
The recoil of the MP7 is lower than that of most SMGs and other weapons, allowing you to aim quite accurately even during sustained fire. However, you should definitely make sure your shots hit, as the damage is rather low.
If you opt for the laser, you have the option to shoot really precisely even from the hip, which is advantageous in heated situations. If you prefer to play a bit safer, Dexterity allows you to reload faster to get back on track.
These alternatives are available
Which weapons are suitable as well? If you can’t get along with the MP7 or don’t want to unlock it, you can also opt for the MP5. However, it is somewhat slower and more cumbersome, but has a higher range.
To deliver a good “Run&Gun” style with the MP5 as well, you should best build the secret variant MP5K . This is indeed generally worse than most SMGs, but it’s the best option for the MP5 for this style.
Mr. Fruit also offers a good build for the Uzi, which is underestimated by many players. He emphasizes that certain attachments can essentially make any submachine gun a good “Run&Gun” option:
- Muzzle: Suppressor (Monolith)
- Stock: No Stock
- Grip: Textured Tape
If none of these weapons appeal to you, you can also revert to assault rifles and modify them with certain modifications to become secret SMGs:
