If you have lost interest in Pokémon GO, you don’t have to delete the app right away. Our author Noah reveals how he never gets bored.
This is my foundation: I have achieved almost everything Pokémon GO has set for goals. I currently have over 160 million XP and my battle teams can’t get much stronger.
Still, the game is far from “completed” for me. On the contrary: Currently, I spend more time in Pokémon GO than ever before. My own goals are the reason for that.
I don’t need goals from Pokémon GO
Normally, you complete the tasks set by the game to ultimately finish it. Once you’re done, the game can quickly become boring. In Pokémon GO, you can reach the maximum level quickly and also assemble a somewhat solid team through raids and trading.
Especially now in winter, many players drop off. It gets cold and wet outside. Hunting is just more fun in better weather. However, none of this stops me from currently playing Pokémon GO more than ever before.
The goal motivates me currently: On the Community Day in November, I caught about 182,000 Pokémon. A buddy asks me if I want to reach 200,000 by the end of the year. I just laughed and said: “No.” But my ambition was awakened.
Whether I have caught 182,000 Pokémon or 200,000 doesn’t matter for the goals set by Pokémon GO, but I just wanted to achieve a goal beyond that. So I clearly set the goal: I want to catch another 18,000 Pokémon by the end of the year, making a total of 200,000 Pokémon.
I immediately got started and calculated how many Pokémon I need to catch per day for that. It was about 400 when I started my challenge. From then on, I was more motivated than ever in Pokémon GO. Even in sub-zero temperatures and pouring rain, I dared to go out and caught my 400 Pokémon a day.
I am currently on track to achieve my goal by the end of the year. The entire community from my city stands behind me and helps me reach it. They walk with me or ask if I have reached my goal today.
Why am I telling you this? Surely some of you are thinking now: “Why should I catch 400 Pokémon? I don’t play that much” or you are the complete opposite and laugh at my 400 Pokémon per day.
In the end, I want to advise you to set your own goals in Pokémon GO. It’s a lot of fun. For me, even more fun than grinding to level 40 or leveling up with friends to the highest level.
These goals could motivate you
If you don’t like catching Pokémon or simply play less, there are also other goals for you to set. Here are a few suggestions:
- Catch X Pokémon per day
- Level all medals to gold
- Hunt all available Shinies and find suitable trading partners
- Continue to collect XP even after level 40
The possibilities in Pokémon GO are immense. Even after level 40, many possibilities remain open. I was surprised that a pretty simple goal could motivate me so much. I draw from this that I will set such goals more often, so I can also bridge boring days and weeks in Pokémon GO well.
However, I was not so thrilled about an event lately:
