Activision Blizzard is asking for €930 for a bundle of the “Call of Duty” series on Steam. This has caused outrage: Activision Blizzard is selling a 12-year-old game, for which there are no longer any servers, for 60 €, complains a user on Reddit.
What is being sold so expensively? The “Call of Duty Franchise Collection” bundle costs €930 and 66 cents. Activision Blizzard claims that you save €103. That’s the discount. In total, the bundle contains 39 items:
- Among them are some full-price Call of Duty games like Infinite Warfare or Black Ops 3, which are still being offered for €60, even though they are from 2015 and 2016
- For Advanced Warfare, all 3 DLCs are sold, each for €15 – the titles are now 9 years old
- Even for Black Ops 2 from 2012, Activision Blizzard still wants €60 – and €15 each for the 4 DLCs.
Activision Blizzard shows some mercy at least with “Modern Warfare 3” from 2011. For this, they want “only” €40 for the base game and €14 for each DLC.
Players list the many problems with the “offer”
What are the comments like? People on reddit are particularly upset with Activision Blizzard because these old Call of Duty games are in poor condition and unsafe. The servers are full of phishing bots, says one. The bots there are just waiting to gain backdoor access to PCs. Activision knows this and does nothing.
Furthermore, most old Call of Duty titles use the same engine and have the same bugs and exploits.
A 10% discount is described at this point as an “insult”.
This is particularly bizarre: Additionally, the titles that are offered at full price here were available in a sale from mid-April to early May.
For example, Black Ops III, which is now sold for €60, was just weeks ago priced at €19.79 on Steam.
Another Reddit user adds that many of the games sold here for €60 can be found used for €5. That’s just bad.
With so many points, one can understand a comment that says “Call of Wallet: Modern Robbery.” This bundle probably won’t make it onto our list of the most expensive things on Steam that are still somewhat worthwhile: The 5 most expensive things on Steam that are actually somewhat worth it
