Blizzard seems to be listening to player feedback during the Alpha of WoW: Shadowlands. Torghast is supposed to become even better – and nearly endlessly playable.
The Alpha of the next expansion of World of Warcraft has been running for several weeks. However, with Shadowlands, Blizzard aimed to change much about the feedback culture and listen more to the community during development. Apparently, this was more than just an empty promise, as the Torghast tower will likely receive massive changes because players love it so much – despite the huge monster that hunts you.
What is Torghast? The Torghast tower is one of the main features of Shadowlands. Players can venture into the tower and reach higher levels. In doing so, they unlock new (temporary) abilities that can even change their playstyle. For example, “Hex” from shamans can become a damage cooldown that kills hexed enemies in a few seconds.

In simple terms, Torghast is likely a wild mix of the Disturbed Visions and the Chromie scenario, minus all the annoying elements, such as time pressure or the exact same layout every time.
What has been said now? In a rather long interview, streamer and YouTuber Preach spoke with lead encounter designer Morgan Day. Much of the conversation revolved around Torghast and also the feedback that has been collected so far.
Day emphasized that they are very happy about the feedback and pleased that Torghast is currently being received so well. They understood the players’ concerns that Torghast might be too limited. He is glad that many players want to venture into Torghast more often and wants to enable that.
Torghast is supposed to be different from visions: Some players fear that Torghast will be similar to the Disturbed Visions, where access needs to be painstakingly farmed and you are virtually forced to play over and over again. They want to avoid this with Torghast. Although the tower is necessary for crafting legendary items and is a core feature of Shadowlands, there seems to be no obligation to go there after the first legendary.
Moreover, access is not supposed to be so heavily limited. Currently, the planned idea is to have two different modes:
- A mode that may work through access like a key. Here, players could earn the important resources needed for crafting legendary items.
- A mode that is freely and permanently accessible. Here, players would mainly obtain prestige items, like achievements, titles, transmog, or pets. The exact details have not been worked out yet, but Torghast is supposed to be as frequently accessible as players want.

What does staying in Torghast provide? According to current plans, there will not be any equipment to be gained in Torghast. Instead, you can find some ingredients there that you need to craft legendary items. Besides that, there is mainly anima and cosmetic rewards to earn in the tower.
Benedict Grothaus from MeinMMO has already tested Torghast – here are his experiences.
What does the community say about Torghast? Currently, Torghast is not yet playable by all classes and many contents are not fully completed – there are sometimes still missing textures or some enemies. But so far, the feature has been well received, especially among streamers. Preach, who was quite critical of much in BfA, admitted during a stream that he has spent many hours in Torghast off-camera because it is so much fun. This is mainly due to the crazy buffs and cool abilities you get in the tower.
If Blizzard maintains the current course, Shadowlands could indeed become the expansion that many WoW fans have been hoping for.
