A new video about World of Warcraft fuels the nostalgia of the fans. It’s been well received for a long time.
World of Warcraft is celebrating its 20th birthday and this attracts many old players who are once again engaging with the MMORPG. To honor the event, Blizzard released a video titled “20 Years of Azeroth’s Greatest Adventures” – and hits the nerve it intended to strike.
What does the video show? It features some of the most iconic moments in the history of World of Warcraft. These are moments that have particularly stuck in the minds of players or have significantly shaped the fate of Azeroth. Among them are:
- The beginnings of every hero in the starting areas.
- The battle against Ragnaros in the Molten Core.
- The battle against the Old God C’thun.
- The opening of the Dark Portal at the start of “The Burning Crusade”.
- The whole conflict surrounding Illidan in the shattered world.
- The Lich King in Northrend and the final battle against him, as he wants to turn the players into undead slaves.
The other expansions are all dealt with much more quickly as one approaches modern times. While the battle against Deathwing (Cataclysm) is fully shown, the “Shadowlands” expansion is reduced to two seconds of battle against the Jailer. Only Dragonflight is shown a bit longer afterwards.
Clearly – Blizzard wants to capitalize on nostalgia here, and it seems to be succeeding with the video.

Clearly, Blizzard wants to ride this wave of nostalgia for a while longer; after all, they are currently celebrating not only the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft but also the 30th anniversary of the entire Warcraft franchise.
