The Elder Scrolls Online will soon receive the new DLC Scalebreaker. You can already play it on the test server. We have gathered player feedback on the new update here for you.
What is Scalebreaker? Scalebreaker is the 3rd DLC for 2019 in ESO. It brings 2 new dungeons and launches simultaneously with the free Update 23, which introduces some long-awaited innovations and adjustments to the game. Among other things, the following should be possible:
- Mass crafting of items
- Multiple bids at trading guild marketplaces
- Use the Unraveled keys as currency and exchange them specifically for loot boxes
Feedback on Update 23 and Scalebreaker from the Test Server
You can learn how players are reacting to the dungeons and the new features in the DLC and Update 23 in the following paragraphs.
How the new dungeons are received
Moongrab Temple Town: This dungeon revolves around a fallen dragon that is being misused by vampires. The idea sounds good, but players in the forum have encountered a few problems with the final boss.
It is simply too stressful, as it distributes numerous effects. Among other things, there are various damage-over-time effects, debuffs, and other annoying states. It is no fun to struggle through this chaos. However, the dungeon is enjoyable until the final boss.
Hoard of Maarselok: This dungeon features a dragon plotting devious things in its hoard. The dungeon is already well-received by players in the forum. Fans even compare it to the also popular Sunspire raid from Elsweyr. Especially the mechanics of the final boss are well-executed in hard mode.
What fans say about the changes to the trading guilds
With Update 23, guilds will be able to offer up to ten different locations for the guild trader per week. This is intended to ensure that guilds have a better chance of getting the location they desire.
However, some fans worry in the forum that unfair situations may arise due to increased bidding fees, as wealthy guilds can effectively afford the up to 10 possible bids.
But some players also note that this system likely cannot be well tested on the PTS and it will only reveal whether it works well on the live server.
This is the feedback on multi-crafting
This innovation is extremely well-received, as you can finally craft large quantities of items at once. And indeed all at once, not one after another, as was previously possible in various addons.
This delights the fans in the forum greatly, and they wish for a precise input of the number of items to be crafted and better filtering methods.
What do fans say about the new keys from the Undaunted?
In Update 23, you will receive the keys from the Undaunted challenges as currency, no longer as inventory items. With the new keys, you can buy a loot box containing rare items with 5 keys.

The idea of using keys as currency is universally well-received in the forum. However, many generally feel that it is too much to ask for 5 keys for a box, as the RNG factor is very high for obtaining a specific type of item.
There is a 50% chance that armor drops, and then there is RNG on the type and trait as well. Therefore, 2 or 3 keys would be a better price.
How the new story is received (Warning, Spoilers!)
If you want to know how the story of Elsweyr and the Season of the Dragon continues, you can already access the prologue quest for the 4th DLC “Dragonhold”. It’s about teaming up with the swordmaster and dragon hunter Sai Sahan to initiate the final battle against the dragons .
While Sai Sahan is an old fan-favorite from the base game, his appearance is confusing to some players. Depending on the player’s choice at the end of the base game, Sai Sahan could have met his demise. How can he be alive now?
The explanation is that he simply does not remember what happened after his “death” and has woken up somewhere in the Dragon’s Tail Mountains. This explanation does not sit well with all players in the forum.
Many find it rather silly and feel that the decision from the base game is completely consequence-free and thus irrelevant. However, perhaps there will be a better explanation later in the game for the resurrection of the swordmaster.
That’s all for the feedback from the Scalebreaker test server and Update 23. The release is planned for August 2019, and the developers will surely change a thing or two by then.
