In Marvel’s Avengers, not every superhero has to be the same. You get several options to customize the heroes to your liking. There are skill trees for each hero.
That’s the problem: The new game for Marvel’s Avengers was first properly introduced during E3 2019. A trailer got fans ready for the battle that the superheroes have to fight there.
In Marvel’s Avengers, you don’t play your own created characters, but the predefined heroes from the Marvel universe.
But what will it look like when there are 20 Iron Men on one screen? Similar difficulties were already experienced by “Marvel Heroes”, an action MMO, where everyone was also playing as superheroes or supervillains.
In the end, there were many heroes and villains to choose from – in the new Marvel’s Avengers, there are supposed to be only 5. How does Square Enix prevent the attack of the clone troopers?
That’s the solution:
Each hero has abilities that you already know from the movies and comics of the Avengers universe. But the customization of the heroes goes further. With skill trees, you adjust the characters to your vision.

What do we know about the skill trees? At the launch of the game in May 2020, 5 heroes will be available: Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor. Later, more superheroes will be added for free. Journalists have already had the chance to play Marvel’s Avengers behind closed doors.
As Gameinformer reports, each hero in the game has their own skill tree.
“They [the heroes] have a mix of abilities that can be improved throughout the game. When you invest in these heroes, we give you the opportunity to decide how you customize your character’s skill tree,” explains Scot Amos, Studio Head of Crystal Dynamics, in an interview.
By “investing”, he likely means the time you put into the heroes. Amos further explains: “When you play certain heroes, they will level up and you can decide which skills they learn.”
This should allow for many different types of heroes: “Your Widow can be different from my Widow,” says Amos.
How exactly the skill trees will look is still unclear. The closer the release gets, the more information should become available about the game.
How do the heroes differ? Besides the skill trees, there are further customization options for the heroes.
The appearance and armor can differ from hero to hero. In the trailer, you could see something like a white Iron Man suit. That seems to be one of the visual customizations that can be unlocked throughout the game.
Sounds like familiar gameplay mechanics that you also find in games like Diablo. While multiple people can play the same class there, everyone can individually customize the appearance, skills, and armor.
